How often do we need to change the filter?

That I can't tell you. I'm sure if you go to the maker's site you should find something there. I had a really nasty infestation of fruit flies with the unit and had to get rid of it.

how long are these effective for?

According to the Titan Trash Compactor Booklet, "For best performance, we recommend replacing your odour filter every 3 months."

Can you order a replacement odor filter holder?

I’ve never used the odor removal that I ordered. I did not know where to place it despite the description suggestion. I’ve just been lazy using the odor removal.
