How do letters stick to board??

There are grooves in the board, the letters have a stick like handle that fits into the grooves, I love mine, I have it outside under my carport to announce I work from home and need puppy quiet so do not knock or ring door bell, it is exposed to the weather 24/7 and after months of being exposed it is in great condition
