I just received this the 28” and can’t get it out unlocked. How do you remove the zipper from the lock?

Slide the button by the lock. Also make sure the combination is set to 000. Warning. We bought the 28 and the zipper that extends the bag broke. So, now the suitcase is permanently extended. I’m past 30 days and can’t get in touch with the seller.

Will the 20 in fit in the overhead bin of smaller planes?

Depends on the airline/plane. It fits most larger airlines/planes including most of American and United. It does not fit on other international flights such as Peach or SA Airlink or on some United Express smaller planes. The real height is just over 22" when you include the wheels and handle

The 28 inch is 60.5 linear inches, which is within Delta's checked bag policy, so you would be good to go.
