If your kid likes mixing up ingredients to make "potions" this kit is perfect. I bought it for my 8 year old who likes making leaf/mud "stew" in the back yeard to help with summer boredom and wow! It was a HUGE hit. Essentially the kit is all about mixing in different color glitters, food coloring and confetti with water and then pouring them into bottles. The kit says it can make 20 potions (because there are 20 bottles and labels), but with all the glitter and ingredients you can make them over and over again by re-using the jars. I apprciated the full color "spell book" that had easy to understand written and pictured directions which were simple to follow for my daughter. I bought a small cookie sheet from the dollar store for her to use as a tray to contain the mess, but overall, it wasn't too messy if you stopper each glitter after use. I do have to say that the coloring drops do fade in the potions over time, but my daughter just dumped and remade them. Could you DIY this kit by going to the craft store to buy glitters, mini plastic jars and food coloring? Yes, but having everything in a kit where the instructions refer to the glitters was fun names like sunshine dust or unicorn hair made it more special. Plus the box turns into very pretty shelf which my kid proudly displays her potions. Worth the money and HOURS of fun.

I bought this kit for...me. It looked like silly fun, and let's face it, I had to see what that bright green thing was... This little potion hit is SO. Much. Fun! It's just water and food coloring and the little inserts, but I spent half of a Sunday just mixing up little potions. I made the ones in the recipe book, but I adjusted and adapted a few...then I made a bunch of my own ideas, too! I enjoyed thinking of potions that I might encounter in my D&D campaign...and of course, no potion set is complete without...Kuzco's poison.. Simple, entertaining, rewarding fun. There are plenty of little items to add, lots of glitter, a whole bunch of bottles and plenty of labels to write your own names, even if you mess them up more than once. I think that it would satisfy at least a couple of kids playing together. There's plenty to go around. It's just a superior play kit!

This is a really fun kit and the kids love it but buyer beware that there are numerous cautions about inhaling and skin contact with the ingredients. Plus of course being responsible enough to handle glass. Use outside or in a well ventilated area with some gloves, especially if your child has sensitive skin or asthma.

If your looking something to keep your kids busy for hours then look no further than this! My kids (5 and 3) love this set. They play wizards and create different spells and concoctions. They love it! It comes with labels and spell book. Great value and decent size as well!

This was my 8 year old daughters favorite Christmas gift. She was able to make to potions without assistance and loved all of the different supplies and I was impressed nlby the quality. She actually bought a second kit with her own money.
