Is this comparable to double knitting wool?

Its classed as Worsted, which is a little thicker than Double Knitting yarn. Its lovely yarn to work with.

Very slightly thicker so recommend a slightly smaller needle/crochet hook if your tension is loose.

What size needles do I use?

They recommend 5.5mm needles and 16 stitches to give a 4 inch square. It really depends on your pattern as to whether you go up or down a size. First try what your pattern says for the correct gauge. If you have too many stitches per inch use a larger needle… too few, smaller needle. The yarn knits up really well! Hope this helps :)
