Expensive, but a little more classy.
I like a red vermouth. In a Negroni, where it is hidden behind the flavours of the gin and Campari, a cheaper generic vermouth is more than adequate.However, I am also rather partial to a Manhattan. Which consists of a Rye whisky and vermouth. Here the taste of the vermouth is more prominent and important.On those occasions I treat myself to a more luxurious offering. This Carpano Antica is such a vermouth. It has a more complex array of flavours that for me, complement the whisky Beautifully.Yes, it is considerably more expensive, (but it is a litre bottle). But, for me it is worth the extra for that special cocktail.I don't have it often, but it's always a treat, and I would happily buy again when I run out.I hope you found this review helpful.

I have bought this once before. I was told it was the best vermouth to make a Negroni cocktail. And it is lovely!

You'll never taste a better Negroni:1.5 parts Campari2 parts Carpano Antica Formula Vermouth2.5 parts Bombay Sapphire gin.Serve over ice with a big slice of orange and, optionally, a maraschino cherry.

The best vermouth!
I've tried a number of vermouths over the last year and Antica Formula is my drink of choice.It's roughly a third more expensive than Dolin and Punt E Mes, which are both fine vermouths (depending on what you are looking for). Antica Formula is however far more complex and well, it's something I can drink on its own, with tonic or with Gin or Whisky. Cocchi and Lustau Vermut are only slightly cheaper and to be quite honest for the money neither are much better than Dolin and Punt E Mes.My suggestion is to try a bottle. If you are looking for a vermouth to make cocktails this will elevate whatever you create. Its just an amazing drink!
