I did not ground it and it works just fine.

re: cycling with the blower. a.) do not cycle the lamp with your blower. These lamps take a few minutes to actually reach maximum UV output - you cannot see this but any emitted UV lamp mfg. will confirm this. Cycling defeats the purpose. If you wish to have them run for a limited cycle, install a multi-hour clock-timer. Set them to run 8 hours a day (or whatever). re: Connect to blower - Someone suggested this... No, don't do this. Your blower is driven by 240VAC in two phases, one supplied by a run capacitor. Do not connect a 120VAC device to a 240 VAC source. c.) if you are sold on short cycling, then there are other units which supply this feature via a vacuum switch assembly built into the base of the unit. Based on the beneficial application of UV-C requiring extended exposure, I think this is a mistake. It will not prolong your lamp life, it will shorten it, while reducing the actual effectiveness of the effort. d.) if you are handy, you can install a vacuum diapragm switch of your own - sourced from any HVAC supplier - and directly actuate the receptacle via that microswitch. Most are rated at 2A at 125VAC. You will have to acquire the 120VAC supply, which could in theory be tapped off one leg of your unit supply IF you have a neutral and two hots (many don't). Or, you could use a nearby circuit or receptacle to supply the power through that vacuum switch and to your lamp assembly. But DON'T do it. Cycling UV-C lamps is a bad and counterproductive idea. Use a periodic timer and run them one day out of three. That is a good balance of filament cycling against run time. If you switch them daily, by the time you cycle the filaments 365 times, (1 year) the Miller-Larson effect will probably cause filament failure anyway. You will only have saved a few kilowatts power. Or, do what most manufacturers recommend and run them 24/7.
