Can water be put in this vase?

Yes, it does hold water and it does not leak. That being said, be sure to wipe down the sides in case water has dripped out so that you don't damage the surface you place the vase on. It wouldn't work as a planter, because there are no drainage holes but it makes a great vase.

I see a hole on the ear lobe is that to put in a earring in it?

Just received this product. It is very pretty, but if you are wanting a blank white vase that you don't have to put jewelry on, go with a version without ears. The ear does have a hole for an earring and it's rather large -- it won't be hidden unless you have a plant that drapes over. The hole is not associated with drainage. It is not associated with the holding "tank" of the actual vase (& it's not at the bottom where water would flow to drain;-). With that said, there is no drainage hole on the bottom. You'll need to create a drainage layer in the bottom of the vase with rocks or something similar.
