Probably the hardiest, at the same time delicate plants are the succulents. Well, are you confused with the dichotomy in my statement, let me explain. Succulents can go for long periods without regular watering, yet you water them a tad too much and they suffer from root rot, resulting in an express trip to the Heavens. Hence, it is very important to determine if the soil is indeed dry, before watering again. Poking your artery clogging fat laden burgers and beefsteak fed oversized fingers into the soil is certainly not the most accurate way of determining if it's the right time to water the baby. Here comes the handy tool - you push it inside gently into the soil around the roots and in a few seconds you see the meter jumping around and settle at the estimated indicator meter. If the soil is too hard for the needle to go in, skip harnessing your inner Hulk or The Rock avatar and refrain from pushing aggressively. You would only end up with a broken needle and a dysfunctional tool.

Easy to slide into pot and determine whether watering is appropriate. The experts on social media love to say these are not accurate, but the finger in the soil technique doesn’t work for many of my plants with tight roots or for cacti, and numerous chopsticks would be needed, which would get moistened by previous pots and not provide good results after the first dozen plants lol. I still lift the pot if in doubt, checking the weight, etc, but this is super handy and wipes clean after each plant. I have one upstairs and one down. Great value.
