Keeps my plants happy and healthy for months
I’ve had this soil moisture meter for six months now, and it’s been brilliant. I bought it because I wasn’t sure if my plants were getting the right amount of water, and it’s made a real difference. It’s very accurate and helps me make sure each plant is properly cared for. Some reviews mentioned it can get rusty, so my tip is to keep a dry kitchen towel handy. After testing each plant, I give the probe a quick wipe to make sure the next reading is correct and the meter stays in good condition. I also always store it somewhere dry. If you follow that, it should last a long time. I love how easy it is to use, and my plants definitely seem happier since I started using it. A really great little tool for anyone who wants healthy, thriving plants.

It works, kind of ...
The meter is actually pretty good easy to use and read, but in the right conditions. In normal house plant compost it works very well (the first picture), but ... In chunky, fast draining mixes (like for aroids), it doesn't (second picture). Both the plants are in the same size pots, and given the same amount of water, but as you can see from the pictures, the chunky mix registers dry(ish). My recommendation is that if your plants are in standard house plant mixes, this is a great device and value for money, and will certainly help you prevent over/under watering you plant babies. For chunky substrate mixes it's as useful as a chocolate teapot.

Great Gadget
Great product ! I have many house plants and some aren`t happy with being over watered. This gadget has saved plant lives! The length of the sensor stem is fine for house plants and gives a reading very quickly.

Simple practical tool
What a simple, effective tool. Why did I not get one before? Used on my pot plants it saves all the guesswork. I shall use it outdoors as well. Brilliant.

Takes the guesswork out of watering plants
I’ve had lots of plants in my house for years and have never had an issue with watering them, even if I miss a week they’re very forgiving. However, strangely since Christmas, a few of them have been almost waterlogged and one plant in particular just doesn’t seem to dry out (it’s still alive and doing well). So I bought this little gadget which works a treat. Wipe the end of the probe with paper towel before inserting into the soil each time and it reads accurately. The plant I know was very wet immediately showed up as that on the easy to read display. I generally water my plants weekly so now by using this gadget if it tells me it’s “wet” then I just ignore that plant for that week. It’s been really helpful so thank you!

WARNING: This Device Leaves A Body Count!
If you are looking for a plant water monitor failure story, look no further. This gadget was useful for 6 months but despite meticulous care, it developed a complete and utter soil moisture sensor malfunction. What Possessed Me To Buy It I love plants. Unfortunately, I was not gifted with "green fingers." That’s why I bought the XLUX Soil Moisture Meter - I needed a technological translator to tell me if my Ficus was thirsty or just being dramatic. For six glorious months, it was a dream. My ferns were lush, and I walked around with the smug confidence of a person who actually understands the phrase "moist but well-drained." Then, the XLUX entered its "Goth Phase." Suddenly, every plant in my house was "Dry." I’m talking Sahara-at-high-noon dry. I’d read that the metal probes can oxidise, so I was a model citizen: I wiped it dry after every single use. I’ve inspected the tip for rust, and it’s as shiny as a new 20 pence piece. There is no physical evidence of decay - just a complete and utter loss of its will to live. Last night, I plunged the probe into my watering can. To my horror, I learned the water I had been supplying was apparently not wet! I understand people may have a difficult time trusting the word of someone who, by her own admission, has a poor track record with plants. But I have photographic evidence: the meter stays firmly on "Dry" even when submerged in a glass of water. To ensure this wasn't just a "user error" or a fluke, I conducted two cross checks. First I dried the probe thoroughly and placed it in a glass of water. Result dry. Then I did a Soil Cross-Check: I tested it in soil I had just saturated until it was muddy. Result: "Dry." I’ve checked the laws of physics, and I’m fairly certain the mud and the water in the glass should register as “wet”. Sadly, because I trusted this gadget more than my own common sense, a few more of my plants officially bit the dust. They didn't just die; they were drowned in a sea of good intentions, founded on the belief that they should be watered because the meter said they were parched. Pros: • No batteries needed: Great for the environment, unfortunately not so great for the plants. • Provides the unique service of alerting you when your water isn't wet. Cons: • Accuracy Issues: Does not believe in the existence of water • Durability Issues: Failed after 6 months, despite decent maintenance • Leaves a body count: My plant cemetery needs a new wing If you’re like me and were relying on this to compensate for a lack of gardening talent, be warned: you might be better off sticking your thumb in the soil to test it.
