Is it going to work if one of the coin is partially rusted or discolored? Also can I wash them because the package has hair with the coins?

I believe the coin is supposed to maintain the golden color to work best. I also believe washing the coins should be ok with hand soap, just dry well.

Each weighs less than a quarter coin, but more than a nickel.

Are they long enough for a necklace for kids?

It is 18 inches long (the red cord with the coins attached in the middle). I wrapped it around my 14 year old son’s neck and there was plenty of space in the back to tie it. I hope this helps!
