An accurate and useful instrument for measuring adjacent locations
The main drawback (and benefit!) to this dual temperature/humidity instrument is that it uses a wire. There is no provision to be able to lengthen the wire if it is too short, and the remote probe is pretty fat so a large hole is required if you want to pass it through a wall. The wire is long enough to pass between most walls. That said, these Extech instruments are very accurate and are proven to last for many years. The instrument uses just one battery so there is no remote device battery to go dead and need to be replaced.I was concerned when I first unboxed and powered up the instrument since the in/out humidity was substantially different. After a few hours in the same location the temperature and humidity indication were within one count!I am using this instrument to measure the temperature/humidity in a garage, and an adjacent crawl-space.

Great Experience With Extech
I purchased one of these about 1 1/2 years ago and about one month ago I noticed that the remote sensor probe was not displaying correct values for humidity level, so i contacted the manufacturer to inquire about buying just the probe and replace it myself, since it looked like it was simply attached to the cable by a tiny philips screw. The representative at Customer Service that handled my request told me that although at the moment he did not have easy access to a replacement probe he would gladly send me a brand new Extech 335713 item free of charge, that the company stands fully behind all products it sells and that it takes care of all customers requests to the best of its ability, and that is exactly what I got !I feel that Extech deserves to be mentioned here at Amazon.com for the way its representative handled my request which was above and beyond my expectations with apparently a single aim in mind : the best customer care at any cost.Congratulations to Extech, and i wonder how would a competing company have handled my request ? It could not have topped my experience with Extech !

Returning it
I think I bought this based on another review that said the Extech 445715 Big Digit Hygro-Thermometer was balls-accurate thermometer. I figured this one would be just as good, right? They look almost identical. This unit has two temperature sensors; on internal and one external with a wire connected to a sensor. They read separate temps simultaneously. Unfortunately, there was rarely a moment when the two read the same temp, and half of the time the temps were 4-5 degrees apart. Maybe I should just assume that the average of the two temperatures is likely more accurate than the display of any one sensor, but it's just hard for me to see the same machine show 2 different temperatures at the same location and take it seriously. It's too distracting for me, trying to figure out which temp is right, or where in-between the right temp is. I think I'd rather have a single temp display that's off by a few degrees and not know it. Blissful ignorance would feel better than trying to reconcile two obviously wrong temps with each other. So, it's going back and I'll get the 445715 model instead, for a few bucks more.

Reliable and Functional Hygro-Thermometer
The Extech 445713 Hygro-Thermometer served its purpose well during the time I used it. Its big digit display made indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity readings easy to understand. However, I can’t vouch for its absolute accuracy. Overall, it’s a decent product that met my needs until I no longer required it.

Accurate and easy to use
I required a decent quality hydrometer for gardening work. However, I wasn't willing to shell out $300 plus that it takes to obtain a lab quality device. I previously tried one other vendor's electronic device for @ $60, and that was not accurate, and died after two months. I tried an analog device, but had trouble finding one with a decent size face for reading without removal from green house. That required manual calibration, and also was not accurate, and very slow to show changes in humidity. This device is incredibly sensitive and accurate even when reading up to 99%! Large display is easy to read. Anything comparable is hundreds of dollars.yes, it would be nice to have a longer cord, but I understand that would effect it's accuracy and cost.

Outdoor humidity sensor issue . . . Extech replaced promptly at no cost
It worked great for a year and then I experienced the previously reported problem with the outdoor humidity readings being way off (e.g. 12% when it was raining).I emailed Extech support and a few days later was sent a replacement unit (the whole thing, not just the external probe) at no cost. No hassles with proof of purchase or warranty dates.I would have rated this four stars due to the humidity sensor problem but Extech certainly earned five stars with their customer support.Update: The replacement unit appears to have a slightly different design to the external sensor internal components although the exterior shell is identical. So there's hope that the replacement units will not suffer the same demise as the originals.
