Like an earthquake to wake Wall Street up from sleep
I couldn’t read this book in a single sitting; not even a few chapters went by before I had to keep it down and vent anger at 2 things:1. The ignoramuses who founded MPT, CAPM, and Black-Scholes, sure, but even more us, the modern practitioner who continues to use these models (I happen to be another unfortunate victim of years wasted learning modern finance in college and afterwards). Not a page will go by when you think how different the world would be if Bachelier’s work had remained undiscovered.2. The fact that this book has been lying on my desk for 11 YEARS, unread. I first found Mandelbrot when I was 19, a student of accounting and finance. Maybe it was the hormones of youth, or my lack of comprehension skills that I never completed reading it. Memories of the jagged graphs in the book luckily brought me back to it.This is mandatory reading for everyone who has a bank account.

Must read
Excellent exposition of the true, stark nature of market risks. Any trader worth his credibility should read it. Although the author does not put it as such, a reading would establish to the reader that thus far established orthodox financial market theories underestimate market price risks foolishly, carelessly and only due to the sheep-like nature of human beings to follow the status quo, whether in academic finance or in mainstream finance. If you are a market participant exposed to variable market prices, decide NOT to read it at your own risk. Benoit Mandelbrot is an iconoclast who yet again proves the moronic nature of so-called cutting-edge academics. Just as the Nobel committee decided not to award Einstein the Nobel Memorial Award for his work on the special and/or general theories of relativity, they have decided (foolishly) not to award Mandelbrot the award for physics or economics, while awarding them to lesser works in both disciplines throughout Mandelbrot's lifetime.

Must read for the financial community
The book challenges the traditional ideas of financial markets. The ideas are as yet new and developing. However, to my mind they represent a true leap of finance.

Essential reading from a mathematical genius
Essential reading for any trader, risk manager, quant, or even investor. It will give you a true understanding of the inadequacies of many financial models, and the nature of risk in the financial markets at large. Although the writing style is a bit dull in my opinion, this is more than compensated for by the brilliant content.

Great book
Must read for analysts and advanced investors alike. Really great view of risk with a simplified use of math - much more theory than equations.

Useful and interesting reading
This book is an interesting treatment of the theory of financial markets using a very original approach. It provides several examples from the past and the criticism to models currently used, and it slowly introduces the key concepts of fractals. The book is always readable and doesn't require a strong mathematical background. Personally, I would have liked a more formal exhibition to the theory, but I understand this is not the author's objective. The book encouraged me to deepen the subject and delve into further research.

Fun with fractals and finance
Delightfully clearly written discussion of the mathematics of the turbulent discontinuities that characterise asset and financial markets by the man who brought us mathematical measures of “roughness” (i.e. fractals).
