A must read!
This is such a beautiful story. I’ve been reading manga for a while and this one is now one of my top 2. In the first volume we follow our main character, who’s a famous ninja serial killer, and his journey as to why he decides to go on this island. The story is being told in such an engaging and mysterious way that it always keeps you on your toes. The mystery behind the island and the new things we find out about it, you can tell, are very thought out. There were several times where I even I found my eyes watering because some of the characters really hit home for me. There are no “extra” or “useless” characters here. You’ll find yourself being stuck between who you root for to find the elixir. Beautiful story, gorgeous art style, and lovable characters with meaningful background stories.Recommend this to anyone who’s a newbie or an advanced manga reader!

A Hell of A Ride!
This took me by surprise. I picked it up because I saw it on a list of manga that deserved an anime, and that was all it took for me to check it out. I didn't know what it was about, but I had heard the name before; once I saw the cover for it, I was sold.Bold art, gruesome and brutal action, and characters that'll stick with you (a few at least). This combined with a pretty interesting premise set the stage for what is sure to be a wild ride! I'll be following Gabimaru's story to the end for sure.

A wild "fountain of youth" adventure
This book centers around the main character who is an outlaw to be put to death, but as his nature is, he is completely immortal, and not remorseful for his actions. His executioner has sent him into a mental frenzy, and ends up being coerced into adventuring for the government to obtain a certain thing from this new mystery jungle. The book arrived in perfect condition, and I love the size of the pages, it makes it easier to see the artwork, but doesn't take up too much space on a shelf. Overall, great book and I hope to finish the series.

Read till the end you won't regret it
The media could not be loaded. I started reading this one night and wasn't interested at first and put it down for a few hours then decided to pick it back up and I'm glad I did because the end makes you want more trust me, I'm already done with the 2nd copy and it's great, if you like more adult themed manga then this is a must read. Came in decent condition too although it was in a bag and placed in the mailbox.

Very Creative and Compelling
The dynamics between the three factions is interesting, theres a lot of interplay between the guards, the prisoners and the island. It's a gorgeous manga, it has a very charming sketchy style that ties together neatly with the emotional beats. The ending of this manga series was strange, but great. Nothing went unaddressed.

Fantastic first volume
I selected "Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku, Vol. 1" on my son's recommendation. He said it is a tight story with great art and it is a completed series. He thought I might like the manga version since I enjoyed the anime. He was right. The first volume gets right into with Gabimaru the Hollow and his repeated failed executions. For a man who is calm about dying, his body is resistant to it. Yamada Asaemon Sagiri is an executioner who specializes in decapitating. She is there is to observe and document. Their fates become entwined when Gabimaru agrees to a mission to find 'the elixir of Life' and get a pardon for his crimes and Sagiri is his minder who if he goes sideways, she will execute him.The premise is simple enough. A group of criminals and the minders are sent to an island. A paradise, but as the title says, it is a hell's paradise, but they all have reason to want to find that elixir. For Gabimaru, it is straightforward. He wants the pardon so he can return to his wife. The paneling is fantastic as is the artwork. The only reason that I can't give it 5-stars is not because of the work of the mangaka, Yuji Kaku, but because VIZ did not include color pages and it annoys me because this series costs more than something like "Kaiju No 8" and that series has color pages.Aside from annoyance at the publisher, the volume deserves a 5-star. It has everything that I like in adventure manga. There are battles. There are interesting characters. There is an intriguing setting. I look forward to reading more.
