Q: What keeps the 35mm film roll in place since it is smaller than the space for a 120 roll? Gap visible in photos and video posted.

I am not 100% sure if this but (if you don’t have an adapter), I once came across an article regarding thus issue. It was basically a DIY fix where you place a spacer(s), of your choosing, in the location needed to keep the 35mm roll in place and at the same time allowing it to advance. Try looking for and adapter first before any DIY fix.

Q: Is this adapter easily removed to switch back to 120? Or is it permanently installed?

Yes, it is easy to switch back. You just snap it in to install. And snap out to back to 120 format. No permanent installation.
