Fix that non-latching door!
These work so good I bought a few for my kids home. Even when the latch arrived I couldn’t see how it would work but it does. And so easy! I did use the 2nd (optional) piece and all doors are fixed!

The Perfect Solution!
We had an interior bedroom door that had apparently become misaligned due to the house settling. The latch did not engage any longer when the door was closed. I removed the old latch plate and was able to chisel out a small bit of wood to allow the latch to now fully engage. When I went to replace the old latch plate, I found that it actually covered over the spot that I has just chiseled out. This resulted in the latch not engaging again when the door was closed. At first I was trying to figure out if I could somehow file down the opening of the latch plate to clear enough material to allow the latch to engage once again. This was going to be very difficult because the metal latch plate was very thick and not easily filed down. Next thought, shift the latch plate over a little to expose the newly chiseled out area. This wouldn't work either because that would have meant the screw holes being too close together and causing the wood to split. Now enter the Gator Latch Restorer. It could not have been a more perfect solution. While the overall size of the Gater faceplate is identical to my old latch plate and the screw holes are also a perfect match, the opening for the latch bolt is larger than the old latch plate. This solved the problem of trying to file down the old faceplate to make the hole larger. I was able to just install the Gater faceplate and now the latch bolt was able to fully engage, allowing the door knob to remain closed. It couldn't have been any easier or faster. This was the perfect product for the situation. I would highly recommend this product to anyone in a similar situation.

So easy to install. Quick effective solution.
I spent hours trying to fix two interior doors that wouldn't latch by chiseling, filing, adjusting the hinges etc. These door latches were so easy to install and immediately remedied the situation. Definitely worth the time saved!

Works as advertised
Works great. Door did not lock without pushing on it. This plate fit in perfectly. Screws also lined up. No adjustment or chiseling needed.

Works great but a bit "hacky"
First and foremost, this fixed my issue. I had a door that used to have a deadlatch that kept it closed tightly, but when I purchased new doorknobs, there wasn't a deadlatch available for what I needed. So to closure was loose, and it cause the deadbolt to have a lot of friction when trying to close it. I have a Kevo SmartLock, so this actually caused it to not close fully most of the time. This product narrowed the hole for the latch and the door is now holding in the perfect position to remove all friction from the deadbolt closing. That said, the reason I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is because it feels a bit hacky. I thought the inner plate might be adjustable to narrow the hole, but it's actually static. You narrow the hole by sticking a small screwdriver into the tab and bending it, basically creating a "hump" that sticks out into the opening. It works, it just doesn't look as nice as I imagine a sliding back plate would. But how often do you look at your latch, right? Well, the other thing is that I can now here three distinct latching sounds. The first between the outer plate and the inner plate, the second between the inner plate and the elongated part of the tab (where you bend it with the screwdriver) and the third once the latch gets past the hump. If you close it quickly you only hear two, maybe one, and it's not that big a deal, just not what I expected.I actually had tried to do something similar with a standard plate, bending the tab to narrow the gap, but unless you bend the tab all the way out (which made my door TOO snug), you're going to be at risk of the door flying open since you have to bend a traditional tab from the back instead of the front, which is worse than a boltjam! So I have to hand it to them, this is a product that's going to work in almost every situation, I just wish it was made a bit differently to avoid the two annoyances I mentioned above.
