Fun project, nice mocs.
This is a good kit. Single layer, soft leather, they break in quickly (better when you get them a bit wet from walking in the grass). You'll want to tighten them up a couple of times while you break them in to get that glove-like fit. I peeled off the insoles. They're lightly glued on; one peeled off clean and the other one had to be scraped a bit. I used a dull knife at a ~90 degree angle and got all of the residue off without too much work. Both leather cuts are the same symmetrical shape, there isn't a Left and Right per say (minus the insole shapes) and it makes sense that if you start sewing moc 1 from the left side, you should start sewing moc 2 from the right side. This way you get a good opposing bias for each foot. Also recommend not cutting the excess lacing until you have the whole moc sewn so that you can easily tighten or let out slack when you fit them. Instructions and pictures were easy enough to follow. One of the pattern holes was ripped on arrival, but it really didn't make a difference. The leather is softer than mooseskin, but not as soft as deerskin. Laces will probably need replacing with heavy use, but hey, it's all DIY friendly. I'll probably but another pair when I wreck these and use them as a pattern for better materials, but these are still very wearable for the cost.

Nice, soft leather...odd colors?
Overall, these were pretty simple to put together. The first one took me about 45 minutes with constantly rechecking the directions and fixing mistakes, but the second one only took about 15 without even looking at the sheet. Mine don't look QUITE like the picture, but not too bad for a first time with zero stitching skills. The big issue I have is with the coloring. I don't know if the pieces were grabbed from two different sources, but the sole is a couple shades darker than the cuff and toe cap, as the pictures show.About the sizing being small...that all depends. If you're wearing them with socks then your normal size might be a little snug, but when barefoot your size should be pretty true. With bare feet I'm around an 8.5, so going by other reviews I made a mistake and bumped it up to the 10. Much too big. Not a huge deal as the leather tends to stick to your feet and they're for laying around in, but I easily have a finger width behind the heels when I pull them tight down on the toes.In the end, the leather seems to be fairly high quality and is a pretty good project, especially considering that buying leather moccasins will run you at least twice as much, probably closer to three times. If the colors were uniform I'd probably give them 5 stars, but since they almost look two-tone, I have to knock it down to 4.

Real deal
My husband wanted some moccasins and I wouldn't pay 80 dollars for them, so he ordered these and made them himself. He loves them! I wouldn't have had the patience, but he's into that sort of stuff. Didn't take him too long to put together.

be ready to reread the instructions several times.
parts were fine. took a few mistakes to get the lacing going. results were very flimsy but for 15 bucks, ? i wanted them to try the Earthing/Grounding thing. however these have a polyfoam insert. i cut that off at great effort on one side and gave up on the other. Real Grounding shoes are 200$, but look really nice. this was a sad attempt for my intentions. I could suggest leaving the insert pads loose with an adhesive to offer a choice. not horrible, but not fabulous. 15 dollar camp project is all it claims to be. a busy xmas for the kiddos.

I'm a size 10 normal width.
I ordered the 10/11 and put it together as an 11 (there are 2 sets of holes in the heel) and it fits great. I was a little disappointed as the lacing was shoelaces instead of leather but I found the laces made putting them together much easier (I was a scout). You can put them together skin side or flesh side out or any combination you want.

Not sized well at all
What is not shown in the photos is that there is a glued-in piece of leather that acts as a sole of the show... and it is tiny. A much better photo would be of the inside before assembly with a ruler or size measure of length and width of the foot fitting in.Man. Ordered a "size larger", as per instruction in the product description. My foot is about the size of the entire leather piece not assembled, making it very clear that my foot won't fit into the assembled product. As a leather company, providing good leather straps would have been more comfortable than using laces. Will be returning. Can not recommend.
