Little Fluffy Gigolo Pelu Vol. 1
C**O
A bizarre, yet entertaining read
Just in case the word "gigolo" didn't tip you off, this isn't a book for kids. The main character, the cute fluffy ball on the front cover, might make it seem otherwise but trust me: this isn't something you'd like to hand to a young child. Before I get into the story, I'd like to first discuss the artwork because that's what initially pushed me to purchase this volume. The company that released this doesn't seem to have any intentions of releasing the final two volumes of the series, which is a shame. The artwork in this is really wonderful. It's a shame that it's not entirely in color, as Junko Mizuno has a wonderful way of playing around with color that emphasizes the surrealness of her work. The large size of the volume doesn't hurt, as it gives us a nice view of all of this artwork.I think the artwork is what keeps the story from being as depressing as it actually is. There aren't a lot of spots of happiness in this book, as everything is tinted with this feeling of despair throughout it all. Pelu is surprisingly plucky given how futile his attempts to find a wife might appear to the reader. You kind of can't help but root for him even when you cringe at how low his life occasionally gets. And it does get low, as you see him stumbling into what are some pretty grim situations. They're given a lighthearted spin ala Junko Mizuno, but it'll still depress some to see Pelu try and ultimately fail each time in this volume. However at times I have to say that if I wasn't such a fan of Mizuno's work, this might not appeal to me as much. The idea of a non-Earth persona (not sure if he qualifies as an alien) looking for love in all of the most wrong places is a good story idea and for the most point this volume succeeds. I just feel that at times this was a little too "let's see how many bad situations we can put Pelu through" every once in a while. This is to be expected from Mizuno's work, but I do kind of hope that the next two volumes moves into something more than a "failed romance of the day" format.Overall this really is a decent manga and hopefully one day either jaPress/Last Gasp or some other publisher will complete the series in English. It's a must have for Mizuno fans.

Book came damaged
I am a huge fan of Mizuno but this book was just delivered to me in a very bad state. I’m extremely mad. This is a book and instead of the contents being shown care the entire back cover is crinkled and dented. If you are serious about getting a good copy of this I highly recommend purchasing elsewhere.

Another awsm Junko Mizuno book! <3
If you're a Junko Mizuno fan and you've loved her other works then you probably already own this! If not, get it asap! The book itself is much bigger than the Cinderalla, Princess Mermaid, and Hansel and Gretel book. It similar in size to the Pure Trance book.It contains the story of our hero Pelu, his origins and home planet, and all the people and relationships he discovers during his time on earth. He meets beautiful damsels in distress from a singer, to a deep sea diver, to two students. That's all I'm gonna say!The story is spread across 5 chapters. The book is 168 pages of pure Junko Mizuno goodness! The best part? The book says Vol.1 on it! Which means we Junko fans can look forward for more to come!

Mizuno is Amazing!
One of my favourite artist, Mizuno makes me a happy fan once more with receiving my copy of this delightful story about the cute little alien, Pelu. The book is a nice size and the artwork is as pleasing as all the books I have bought. The artist has a way of making the grim and erotic seem cute and innocent at first glance. As it has been quite some time since the publish date I can only hope to find, one day, a second volume to rejoice over.

Great! but...
I'm not gonna give a review so much as a plea that Last Gasp doesn't drop the ball on this and they actually release the second and third volumes. If they never release the rest of the books, this story will never be complete for Junko's english reading audience, which by my accounts, is bigger than her fan base in Japan.

Great Visuals, Bizarre Storytelling
I love comics/graphic novels and am no stranger to the avante garde, reading Charles Burns and other edgy comics writers. I bought this after seeing the artist's work in a local gallery and admired the hypercute Japanese anime-like images, but the story about a little creature resembling a cloud and his sexual exploits proved dull and bizarre. The same kind of storytelling has been in numerous other offerings from other writers so you can skip this one!
