High quality, still going strong after 4+ years and frequent toddler use
This is a high quality child instrument and we've been enjoying it for several years. It's less expensive than one I purchased at a souvenir shop in Hawaii, but has a nicer sound. The souvenir shop one broke years ago, but we still use this one frequently. My child enjoys strumming and plucking the strings. My spouse is also able to play some nice songs on this Hape ukulele. When my child was about 2 years old, he stood on the neck of this instrument and it snapped off. We glued the neck back on and it still works, as if nothing had happened. We got the idea to buy this Hape ukulele from friends who have children slightly older than ours, and theirs is still in good condition, too, after many years of use. I went back to write this review for the ukulele, because I had purchased a Hape child guitar recently and wrote a review for the guitar. The ukulele seems to be slightly higher quality than the guitar, but I think both are very good quality child instruments. I purchased the red, orange, and yellow Hape ukulele.

My son love it.

Better than a toy, but not quite the real thing either
This little ukulele made the perfect “guitar” Christmas present for my 2.5 year old. It is the perfect size for him. It has been very sturdy as he has dropped it a couple times. It is cute. I wouldn’t exactly say it is tunable though. It has plastic strings and turnable tuning keys. You can adjust the sound, but we haven’t be able to actually get it anywhere near in tune. That being said, my little guy could care less and absolutely loves it! Highly recommend for somebody looking for a gift for a child who wants something better than just a toy, but not quite the real deal and a better price point.

Better quality than expected
My son loved this ukulele. It was perfect size and I love that it's a real instrument, not a toy. Really good quality. Very well made. My son has dropped it quite a few times and im surprised very little damage was made. Used an online tuner to tune and works great. Recommend and would even purchase again to gift this item in the future.

We bought for my 2 year old
Update: it's been two years since we bought this my son has left it outside in the rain and all the normal playing around. It is indestructible lol. Strings are in decent shape and can still be tuned. Best buy ever. Will definitely buy again if and when we need another one. My now 2 year old daughter loves to play with it as well. We bought this for my 2 year old's birthday ( he loved to play on his dad's guitar and we wanted to get him his own). He absolutely loves it! We have had it for 6 months now and he has been very rough on it, but it has held up! No cracks or breaks etc. Great quality, decent sound, and worth every penny.

Okay if you want a small, quiet instrument toy for a toddler; not great as a playable uke
I got this ukulele for my son's second birthday. He absolutely loves guitars, and he always wants to play with my husband's guitar. This ukulele is the perfect size for my son. He can easily stand and play it; it fits nicely in his hands. It's really cute, and the paint looks nice. It seems pretty durable; my son has dragged it around the house for hours on end since he got it four days ago, and it's held up well so far. It is now his favorite toy, but I think it's because he is two and just plain loves "guitars". Once the ukulele has been tuned, it doesn't maintain the sound well. Also, the plastic strings don't sound like much. It's very quiet, which I suppose could be a positive. My husband says the body has a good sound and would probably sound better with new strings. I'm not sure how easy it will be to change the strings. I understand this is an inexpensive kid's toy, but I was expecting a better sound. It's certainly not something the adults will want to pick up and strum like the description says. I actually saw another ukulele at a local book store for less expensive that had a much better sound.

Fun little uke, and absolutely tune-able (just takes a little patience)
This little ukulele has brought so much music to our home. I've subsequently bought two more as gifts. It IS in fact absolutely tuneable and has a good sound; it just takes some patience. When you tune it for the first time you will notice that the strings quickly slacken again and fall out of tune. Just give the strings a day or two to settle. Keep tuning it back up and once the strings have settled they will stay nicely in tune. I last tuned ours weeks ago and I just picked it up and it's still very close to being in tune. Of course, your kid will probably love to play with it regardless of how it sounds. I just mention this for the folks who were disappointed with the tuning. We taught my son to be gentle with the ukulele but it has still taken some knocks and is no worse for wear. On the other hand, my niece managed to bang hers in just the right way to separate the neck from the body of the instrument. It's definitely not indestructible and some of them might be assembled better than others. (Amazon very promptly replaced the broken instrument). Update Nov 2017: Recently it became very difficult to turn two of the tuning pegs. I was disappointed and thought that the gears were stripped. Then I realized we just had to adjust the screws on the back of the tuning mechanisms. I loosened them a tiny bit with a Phillips head screwdriver and the pegs are easy to turn once again.
