Rajpal Hindi English Dictionary

This is actually the Rajpal Learner's Hindi-English Dictionary (the word "Learner's" is missing in the English title on the yellow cover). This is clearly written on the cover in Hindi language.It is printed in 2018, but I think is a reprint. The printing is good, but the printing is little bit weak in a few places. This is a very very small problem compared to what you get for the money.It contains the 10,500 most common words of Hindi language. The selection of words is from 7 different frequency lists published in India in the 1950s and 1960s. To that selection several hundred words have been added to make it complete.It is smaller then the Rajpal Advanced Learner's Hindi-English Dictionary which contains 85,000 words in two volumes. But the smaller one is very different from the Advanced dictionary. The smaller one is much more useful for learning more about each word. The advanced dictionary only give the meanings of the words but is more modern in the selection of words.They complement each other, so I am happy to have both and also Oxford Hindi English dictionary, which is more academic and contains 75,000 words.One reviewer in Amazon wrote that this smaller learner's dictionary is full of printing errors, but this is not so. To be specific, there is two ways to write the first letter of Devanagari. अ is the most common way. This is also explained in the Introduction of the dictionary. This Introduction is also excellent written by the qualified author himself. The length of the Introduction is 14 pages. I am very happy with this dictionary.It is also very good in hardbound edition.This small learner's dictionary is also available on internet, but the printed one is much more useful on the study table.

Inexpensive (@ Rs. 195/-) and good for quick reference. Received a copy with the book jacket slightly torn, which was annoying but not a "deal breaker"
