Excellent for Nurses!
Current applicable information for a RN learning more about treatment/outcomes as I have recently taken a job at a methadone/buorenorphine clinic. Perfect book for me to expand my knowledge in the field of addiction and it’s treatment. Also, enjoyed the historical information included.

Opioids
Book was received in a timely manner, was well packaged and had no damage on arrival. As book was advertised as an authoritative medical guide I was hoping this book would have discussed more of the various effects of different opioids on the body but would give a fair rating for usefulness for my purposes which is teaching drug education.

Overcoming Opioid Addiction is an important book on the subject of saving lives from opioid use disorder with proven treatment.
I am a doctor who treats opioid addiction in my practice. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I learned many new things and it also helped to reinforce what I already know about medical treatment for opioid use disorder. Doctors and other healthcare providers should read it to learn more about what they can do to help. We need to be on the same page and agree on the science of current medical treatment. We need to provide encouragement for our patients to let them know that they are doing the right thing. We also need to educate families, support groups and drug treatment centers about the right way to provide medical treatment. There is too much misinformation out there right now. Dr. Bisaga sets the record straight and makes it clear what needs to be done. Anyone in healthcare and anyone with opioid addiction in their life needs to read this book.

This is an excellent book to be read by anyone afflicted by this ...
The book presents a short introduction to the world of opioid use although it does not go into a lot of detail. The bulk of the book concentrates on the treatment and care of opioid users; particularly treatment using medical support through other narcotics. This is a guide for someone that is trying to get informed on the topic of opioid use and its treatments. The book is divided into four major parts; the first explains what the opioid use epidemic is and how it is affecting our society. The second part covers the opioid addiction treatment and challenges. The third part provides guidance to the families of opioid users. Finally, the fourth and last part of the book tries to give an idea of how the treatment works and what to expect during and after it. The book has an appendix where the author is explaining more about the different treatments. There are many books about the topic of opioid use, but they do not always explain how the medical treatment works in detail. This book offers readers a real and honest explanation of medical treatment for the opioid addiction. This is an excellent book to be read by anyone afflicted by this disease directly or indirectly. I received a free copy via NetGalley.

An authoritative, compassionate guide
This book provides much needed authoritative, compassionate guidance about opioid addiction, currently often referred to as opioid use disorder (OUD). Dr. Bisaga draws from decades of experience as an addiction psychiatrist. He combines the latest scientific knowledge with a detailed understanding of the behavioral aspects of this widespread medical and social issue. The information is presented in a comprehensive manner that avoids highly technical language, so it is accessible to a broad range of readers. The explanation that this illness is a chronic brain disease is presented in a convincing manner and the comparison to other chronic illnesses that require prolonged medical and behavioral support is emphasized. There are detailed sections of the book that will be of immense help to both family members of an affected loved one and to those who suffer from OUD. Medical and behavioral health providers would also benefit from the information provided as a supplement to their specific specialty training. As a physician who treats patients with OUD, this book has already has already been highly recommended to many of my patients and their families as a valuable resource.
