Doctor Who: Tom Baker Complete Season Seven [Blu-ray]

Classic Doctor Who without touching grass
The old Doctor Who is so much better than the "new one". It's a classic adventure series that's full of fun and joy, without any disdain for the audience. The older series was never afraid to do new and exciting things, and it never forgot what makes Doctor Who great. It's like the Doctor himself: sometimes a little weird, but always with a good heart. Doctor Who: Tom Baker Complete Season Seven" on Blu-ray is a wonderful final season for the Tom Baker era.

Happy Dr Who Fan is happy.
Viewing figures were down, of course, when this season premiered, way back when, but it’s generally one of my favorites. “Full Circle” is a very, very weak story, but the rest of the season makes up for it. “The Leisure Hive” is very good. “Meglos” is good fun and archetypal Who. “Warriors’ Gate” is an unusual one but quite strong, almost surreal. The twofer of “The Keeper of Traken” and “Logopolis” was and still is a really strong, ambitious season-end. Also, one cannot leave out the premiere of Peter Howell’s legendary up-to-dating of Ron Grainer’s legendary theme song for the show. The whole thing, all of it, is just absolutely classic Doctor Who.

The best Doctor of the Who series.
Of all of the actors who have played Doctor Who, Baker in my opinion is the best!

A new Blu-ray at last...
To answer the issue of why only Tom Bakers first and seventh seasons have been released so far: it’s the BBC. They didn’t release the VHS tapes or DVDs in chronological order either. Don’t complain. At least we’re getting classic Doctor Who on Blu-ray. Who cares which order they get released in?Tom Baker’s Season 7 (or Classic Doctor Who Season 18 if you prefer) never was my favorite season, so why the 5 star review? Well, having rewatched and reassessed each story, I realized that there were no truly bad stories in Season 18, which I don’t think can be said about any other 1980s Doctor Who season.Following the abject silliness and camp humor that dominated the previous season, Season 18 featured a return to a more scientific and serious approach which was a refreshing change of pace. It also utilized story arcs which modern viewers are now very accustomed to, something that was only used occasionally in Classic Who.Season 18 is important in that it introduces three new companions, sends off Romana and K9 and reintroduces the Master in what I consider one of his greatest stories. Furthermore it features the regeneration of the 4th Doctor into the 5th, so it is definitely a pivotal season. As for the presentation, the episodes look great with the upscaling of Leisure Hive and Logopolis looking particularly good to me. In fact the image quality of Leisure Hive made me appreciate the story in a way I never did before. It looks great, almost cinematic really. Logopolis also looks fantastic and the new special effects enhance the story without being distracting. In addition to the original DVD special features and the inclusion of K9 & Company, there are a plethora of new special features, including the entertaining and amusing behind the sofa segments. The exchanges between Janet Fielding and Wendy Padbury are extremely funny. I don’t know why Padbury was involved...perhaps a 2nd Doctor Blu-ray season is in the works? The new documentaries are also fantastic.Keeping in mind that the original DVDs cost me about $120 to complete this season several years back, the price for the Blu-rays seems a bargain. If you’re a Doctor Who fan, it’s really hard to go wrong with this collection. I feel like it’s slightly better than the Season 12 and Season 19 sets that preceded it (mainly due to consistency) but they’re great too.

Absolutely Delicious!
I absolutely adore your human television series, Doctor Who. Tom Baker as the Doctor is wonderful. I was very surprised to see the amazing price that Amazon was offering this Blu-ray collection at. I gobbled it right up."Leisure Hive" tasted a bit like honey. "Meglos" had a very distinctive cactus-y aftertaste. I was pleasantly surprised that "Full Circle" reminded me very much of the riverfruit I used to be able to find on the planet, Alzarius. That's rather surprising as Alzarius is extremely difficult to get to being that it is located in E-space. "State of Decay" had a bit of a bat taste to it. Great - if you like bat. "Warrior's Gate" tasted very old at first, as if it had gone bad, but then suddenly it was fantastic! I very much enjoyed "Keeper of Traken" as it was obviously prepared by an absolute master. Lastly, "Logopolis" left me wanting more - of Tom Baker as the Doctor. This was his last outing as the Doctor, which is a bit distasteful, but I'm certainly happy this was included in the set.As for all the extras? What a smorgasbord! As much as there is, I ate it all up in no time at all!Altogether, this Blu-ray collection most definitely filled me up. Plus, it included "K9 and Company" starring Elizabeth Sladen. What a fantastic dessert!

Classic Who never looked this good.
Great season & the picture quality on the bluray gives the classic series of Doctor Who new life. Never looked better. Cant wait to get series 10 or Jon Pertwees 4 season if that is correct. All I know is Jon Pertwees played the Doctor from series 7 to 11. So that what 4 or 5 seasons in all ? Bluray releases wise. For all of Pertwees run.

Tom Baker Out with a bang
Just finished watching this season. Tom Baker's last as the doctor. I found it an extremely entertaining set with a big improvement on the special effects compared to season 1 which I reviewed previously. The picture quality is great and the extras are worth a look see. Give it a try and you will be glad you did.
