A tourist/ladyboy romance. And shallow at that.
I was looking for something that dealt in a scholarly manner the phenonomon of Ladyboys in Thailand, culturally, psychologically, economically. This book is a very short romance novel, in which the author becomes emotionally involved with a lady boy. Not well written. If there were perceptive observations about the lifestyle or place in the culture, I missed them.

Great read that makes you look at yourself
I read this book twice. Its powerful andmakes you question yourself about how far you would go if it were you. The easy answer is I wouldn't. The easy answer isn't always the honest answer nor the most accurate. This book shows how a man can fall into a trap and never free himself. It also shows the trap those who work the streets are caught in as well.Great book and bargain for the price.

Bangkok Baby
It seems the author is writing to a certain demographic somewhat familiar with "Ladyboys". The little research I did on "third sex" was worth the time. Having some knowledge of this new sex helped me understand the book better. I had to remind myself at times that his reference to "her", "she", and "girl" is actually male gender (more accurately; female with penis and no vagina) throughout the book. The only thing wrong with Bangkok Baby is that it ended. It is creative. David Bonnie makes his Ladyboy experience and his details remarkable. His talented writing draws you in to a complex level of humanity. He kindly opened the door for me to accept his new lifestyle, even through the most graphic details I have ever endured. He manages to convey the loveless beyond emotion, tastefully and with style. David is hilarious. Hold on tight for the ride of your life.

whilst fun and interesting as a whole if you're into the ...
From the outset the author could have done with an editor and proof-reader.Their are; so many basic punctuatshon, speling: and gramma. issues it starts too get old farstThe story, whilst fun and interesting as a whole if you're into the subject matter, was unnecessarily explicit in places. A better author would have found ways to leave more to the imagination without losing the vividness of the subject matter.Meh. Note that this is the prequel to the author's second novel which fully incorporates this with photos. So there is no value in buying both - if you buy the second you have everything in the first plus some colour photos.

Bangkok Baby-online reviews
Excellent writing and story! Thanks for taking the time to share. My first trip to Bangkok was this past Oct. and I remember sitting in the hotel room thinking "Am I ready for this?" All turned out well and good times were had. Tommgreat read and beautifully written.....to misquote Bill Hicks"I think we got ourselves a writer boys" TBFantastic read, hope there is more to come TCGreat read.Could totally relate to the part about wondering if LadyBoys's had something else to offer in a relationship since the ones with women don't always work out. I tried many times, and to me it is the same B.S (same same, but different.) Now, it's just "I'll take love wherever I can get it" kind of attitude. JBI know every feeling you describe. Very nice writing, I love the simile "like looking at a Botticelli." This is almost too good. If you're making this up, I will hunt you down. For the moment, I will suspend disbelief and let myself be sucked into your story. JasonGreat story and even better that it's true. I've only been to Thailand once but spent it with 1 LadyBoy. And I can relate to how your feeling. I wondered how I could be falling for this LB so easily, but now see it's a common thing. I think if I'd have been with her much longer, I'd be trying to support her and have a real relationship with her. I have no idea what I'd have then done with my girlfriend here in the states. Isn't life grand? SteveLike you, I have shed many tears. This is a bit of a clash with Thai culture, where men are never supposed to cry in front of anyone else. I used to tell my Thai girlfriend that crying is a sign of strength, that only someone very confident would dare to cry openly, but we will never change their cultural perceptions. A few times she has reminded me just how much she cries when no one is around. MikeI have no problem understanding how you feel. I hope that others can find the same SOUL that you have. Benny 1949Fabulous writing style, hot girl that seems to deeply care. I love it! PRPLAYA... Dark shadows of red and black shaped her face, an expensive piece of modern art that no-one understands. ...... She sat next to me on a `little bus'. People stared. Her smooth, naked leg touched mine. I thought about animals. ...This has to be the best thing i have read about living in Thailand in a very long time. So close to home i can smell it. Thanks for this, thanks for taking us along, and thanks for sharing something obviously private. BKKA great writer and I can identify with so many of the things he relates. I can't get what on earth the farang threw in the water though? It is troubling me because I can think of two many possibilities. M4LBack in my bed again.Back in my heart again. As we exit the MRT at Huay Kwang the sky is heavy.2AM, She walks along Sukhumvit, she knows where you will be. Her radar never fails.Between soi 5 and 7, the final chapter in tonight's Bangkok story is about to be written.Clap Clap Clap !!!Didn't see so many times that words can get so close to reality, or at least to what's real to me!Anhanger NYSend a script to Quentin Tarantino. He'll make the first ladyboy mafia movie & many more to follow. FPWonderful story. Funny, sad, frustrating and yet still a winner. Downtown

Just ok, not what I hoped for
Flat characters. I would have liked more OMG scenes. Also I'd like to read more stories about non pro lady boys.

If a person reads this book in order to gain some insight into the sad and sordid existence of ladyboy prostitution then they have ...
Having supposedly been written by an educated person,I can only assume that he was on something at the time of writing. It is, quite simply, written pornography mixed with utter filth. It lacks any direction and at times is phrased so as to imitate the broken English as spoken by some Thai people, the point of which escaped me.If a person reads this book in order to gain some insight into the sad and sordid existence of ladyboy prostitution then they have most definitely chosen the wrong pathway. In the television programIf this is supposed to have been written by an educated person,I can only assume that he was on something at the time of writing. It is, quite simply, written pornographic filth. At times it imitates the broken english spoken by some Thai people, the point of which totally escaped me.Far from illustrating the sad and sordid world of ladyboy prostitution in a constructive manner, it made them look like lost souls instead of the pitiful victims that so many are.On television he portrays himself as articulate and educated; so what went wrong?
