Product description Simon and Garfunkel - Definitive - CD desertcart.co.uk Simon and Garfunkel are undoubtedly one of the most successful songwriting duos of the 60s, reaching a similar level of popularity to the Beatles during the latter part of the decade. This Definite Collection shows what a diverse duo they really were and how many memorable tunes they performed together. Though many were put off by the pair's more sterile folk-rock arrangements and clean choirboy harmonies, this collection shows that there was much more to their artistic palette. Songs such as "Homeward Bound", "I Am a Rock", "Cecilia" and "Mrs Robinson" all show that the duo could rock with the best of them and "The Sound of Silence" and "Bridge over Troubled Water" are just some of the beautifully timeless records the pair gave us. It may not be as definitive as it claims but this is a great collection featuring some of their best and most well known works. --Paul Sullivan Review: Definitively the best Simon & Garfunkel collection? - Could be! - A legendary 'folk/rock' duo: Simon and Garfunkel are bound to be celebrated at fairly regular intervals with a Greatest hits/best of compilation of their finest songs, especially since first calling it a day in 1970. 'Greatest hits' - first released in 1972 - certainly has staying power, and The S&G Collection - from 1981,are both excellent releases. The Definitive Simon and Garfunkel: first released in 1991; contains 20 tracks of their most - and (to some) lesser known songs.varied selections of their early folk music style - Wednesday morning 3am (opening track),Homeward bound, continuing with the beautiful: Scarborough fair/canticle. A couple of live renditions of Kathy's song and For Emily, wherever I may find her - hearing Art Garfunkel's searing, unwavering, passionate vocals on this track - is a pure listening joy! Probably my all-time favourite S&G song - I am a rock - extolling the virtues of isolation and solitude - with its brilliant sounding keyboards - is short in length - but an absolute corker! Their trademark close-knit harmonies are showcased throughout this one disc collection; from the upbeat - Feeling groovy,to the sublime, thought provoking - Seven o'clock news/Silent night. Selections from my personal favourite S&G album: Bookends I.e. A hazy shade of winter,America,At the zoo and the heart-rending and haunting medley of - Old friends/Bookends theme. Onto track selections from the mega selling, classic Swan song album - Bridge over troubled water: El condor paso (if I could),Cecilia,The Boxer and the forever timeless classic title track: Bridge over troubled water.what else can I say: apart from the final inclusion from said album, closing track on that and this album - Song for the asking - a fitting end to this excellent 'Definitive' Simon and Garfunkel compilation album. Inner sleeve is pretty sparse but contains black & white photo of Paul and Art - and informative, excellent sleeve notes by music writer (hate the term journalist) Patrick Humphries.who reveals 'The Definitive collection' was curated by Art Garfunkel who explains the 20 songs included,he personally felt represented the very best of the duo's output together - interesting. Sound is very good 'CD' quality (early days' CD format terminology) and leaves me to say; this, for me is pretty much the best and Definitive compilation ever released of Simon and Garfunkel's classic songs they made together - what a musical legacy they have now and for generations to come! N.B. can't believe I've not given a name check for: Mrs Robinson - from The Graduate OST and another all time classic from S&G. Review: We are not worthy! - This is a truly definitive album in that you need never buy anything else by these two magicians of mellow music. Although completists may want to, as someone who imbibed these two with my mother's milk, the tracks here are literally timeless as I can listen to them over and over and never get bored or reaching for other S&G albums. Allegedly under the central African regime of Hastings Banda, the song "Cecilia" was banned, since the dictator had a mistress by that name when the song came out and people adopted it as a sly joke against the government. That's how influential these subtle and gentle songs have been to millions around the globe. Classics such as "Sound of Silence" and "Bridge over Troubled Water" rub shoulders with more moody tunes like "For Emily" and "Kathy's Song". Ballads such as "The Boxer" and folksy tunes like "Scarborough Fair" nestle amongst more upbeat tracks such as "Hazy Shade of Winter" and the aforementioned "Cecilia". The harmonics of the duo are revealed on "Wednesday Morning, 3am" (try listening on headphones and only put one ear on at a time). "Mrs Robinson" comes from the film "The Graduate" and has become a classic. "Song for the Asking" and the two halves of the "Bookends" theme are not my favourites, but then any review is bound to be subjective and that does not mean that they do not mean anything to anyone else or are purely chaff amongst the wheat like on albums from lesser mortals. Definitely a must-have for any serious music lover and others beside.

Everything good
It took me ages to choose which of the S&G CD's to purchase as I don't much care for lots of loud extra noise that you tend to get when the recording is from live events. This one works fine. There's some clapping going on at times and a few cheers but basically it's easy listening. I'm happy to give it 5 stars. It also arrived quickly. It's got most of the best songs on it and I'm struggling to turn it off lol! It's on repeat as I type. Well worth the money and a really good representation of Simon and Garfunkle at their best.

Wonderful sounds.
For a time, Simon and Garfunkel stood supreme as folk come pop stars. This collection makes you understand why, from the wistfulness of The Boxer, the sentiments in The Sound of Silence to one of the greatest songs of love, the ever wonderful Bridge Over Troubled Water. Paul Simon wrote them, Art Garfunkel sang them and together they were fantastic. Ignore later solo songs and albums, just listen to this and lose yourself. For those over a certain age, have a 70's themed dinner party, Chicken Kiev, Black Forest Gateau and this playing in the background - you'll have a great evening.
