Best trail book for the Bozeman area
First off, I want to make a note that Amazon shows that there is a newer version of this book available and has a link to the 3rd edition. This is actually the 4th edition and is the newest one available. I also own the first edition from back in 2001 or so and this one has over twice the number of hikes compared with the first edition. I have been on several of the hikes already and make a mark in the book with the date that I went. It has been a really fun way to get the family outdoors. I also have the Day Hikes in the Beartooth Mountains Day Hikes In the Beartooth Mountains and that one is also very good. I have seen several other hiking books for Montana and around Bozeman in particular, but none of them have the amount of detail as this one does. I would recommend this first to anyone that wants to explore the Bozeman area.

Excellent book
This guide was extremely helpful in planning my hiking vacation near Bozeman. I purchased two books and although both were helpful, this was the better one. Highly recommended.

Best overview of hikes in area!
We use this book weekly! It is extremely helpful even though we know the area. Some places you have zero reception so having a written copy of trails with directions has been great! Plus it has introduced us to new hikes we didn’t know about.

Great reference, but ask the locals once you arrive in Bozeman.
A really great collection of hikes from around Bozeman. It was really helpful in finding some of the more out-of-the-way hikes in and around Bozeman. Of course, the waiter at Ale Works in Bozeman gave us a couple of recommendations on his favorite hikes in the Bozeman area that really helped narrow our choices down, this book was great at getting directions to the trailheads, mileage of various sights along the trails, and recommendations that were helpful as well.So in summary, these types of guides are great, but it makes narrowing your choices down harder when you have so many options. The best advice is ask a local and you might be surprised to discover that they are the best source of information on where to go.

Very useful and comprehensive
This is a good guide book. It covers a wide area around Bozeman. Good descriptions of trails and trailheads (though could be a bit more explicit about some of the roads being, uh, not so good, but passable in a sedan). As a first time visitor to the area who likes to hike, I found this to be an excellent guide. And it really is a beautiful area!

The essential hiking guide for Bozeman and Paradise Valley
We relied on this hiking guide during a four-day trip to the Livingston area. We were new to the area, and we would never have found these wonderful trails without it. The maps, directions, and descriptions of the hikes were exactly correct and perfectly clear. I've used lots of different kinds of hiking guides; I wish they'd all been this helpful.

THE Must-Have book if you live near Bozeman
I lived in Bozeman for 15 years, and came to appreciate the proximity of the trails and mountains! Even though I no longer live there, I bought this book for my son. I really wish I had known of it sooner - there are trails listed and described that I didn't even know about! Excellent resource!
