Authentic Best Duty Cast Iron Product

Nice pot
I use cast iron exclusively, some old Griswold, but most is lodge. I have been intrigued with the shape of a potjie pot so when my daughter gave me an Amazon gift card for my birthday I bought the potjie pot #1, it holds approx 3 quarts. The pot is quite heavy and I am still seasoning the interior. I believe this will be a good solid pot to do small roasts, stews, and of course baked beans. I’m very pleased with the pot and construction. If you love cast iron give it a try.

Great pot!
Great cooker! Size 1 is good to make dinner with 2 lbs of chicken with veggies. Perfect for a side dish for a party of 10-12 people. I love this pot. It’s a bit on the heavy side. Always use oven mits when handing it.

Best Duty cauldrons are the BEST!
Best damned cauldron for the price. Strong weld seam on the bottom indicates an excellent quality. Got the size 1 and it’s just under a gallon (3.5 ish liters i think?). More than enough to suit all my general needs. Small but quite adequate. Even came with a little wooden knob to fit the iron lid too! Good thing too as my tongs were recently lost. Couldn’t be happier with it. It’s got everything I look for in a sturdy cauldron. Will be buying Best Duty again when I’m in the market for a family size cauldron. ARRIVED FAST! 5 stars! 🖤🧙🏻♀️🖤

Make sure to strip this product and reseason it!
I own a lot of cast iron and learned early on that it is better to be certain about what surface is touching your food. Some cast iron is not coated with the flax or vegetable oil that they all seem to claim. This one definitely was not. The interior was coated with a thick, brown, rancid-smelling oil which the instructions said to scrub out with soap and water and then to oil it again (not season it) before using it. The outside had a nice dark black coating on it that led me to believe it was well seasoned, but when I went to strip it and re-season the exterior while also initially seasoning the inside, I found that the substance the pot was painted (not seasoned) with appeared to be stove black. The substance was thick and stained everything it touched and took a significant amount of scrubbing on the pot with steel wool before I could touch it and not stain my hands black (yes stain, it took a lot of effort to get this substance off of whatever it touched). I have stripped many cast iron products before. None of them stunk up my house the way this one did or stained things like this. You can almost blow the remaining dust of a cast iron pan that has been seasoned with oil. I will not buy another Best Duty product from this vendor. I had read that Best Duty was known for making high quality products, so maybe these are knock offs, but I still will be much more cautious about purchasing this brand again.
