Coop Controls Automatic Coop Door Opener Kit (CKSPXP-Solar Kit, No Battery)

I bought this kit (the solar one) back in May last year and I brag about it and share the brand name to all my fellow chicken tenders. The delay feature is nice if (like me) you have one stubborn bird who likes to drink water in the near-dark before going up to bed. We had 2 times when someone got locked out. Once was in a rainstorm and I think the door closed early because of the clouds (the chickens were NOT happy about their sky bath). The only reason I took one star away is because the beeping quit working normally after a storm. It did a random plethora of beeps at all kinds of intervals, some of them sounded like the "arm is jammed" beep, sometimes it sounded like the "battery is low" beep... The arm wasn't trying to move (it was open and midday), and we checked the battery with a meter and it was NOT low. I emailed the company and whoever replied just told me my battery was dead. Super helpful there (not). So I figured it had to be a wiring/moisture problem because it started after the first rain, even tho I've never seen moisture inside the case. We ended up just turning the alert noise off so now it's silent and still works perfectly. This thing saves my weekend mornings (I get to sleep in!) and has allowed us to take a 4 day trip without worry.

After 2 years of using this opener, I need to get something reliable on a timer, since on cloudy days it won't open and on sunny days when it gets overcast or rains the door closes locking chickens out. I've lost over 10 good laying hens at various times to night time predators because this door locked the hens out early. A good timer from this manufacturer would resolve this issue of an otherwise heavy duty setup.

At first this door was great. But in the winter, when the temperature was under 32 degrees, it would not open. Now, the arm is broken. This is one of the most expensive doors on the market it should last for years. I contacted the company and had a trouble shoot session. They determined that the arm needed replacement which has a lifetime guarantee. They shipped it out the next day. I really like the ability to use my own door and the customer service was great. I do recommend this door opener and company.

Bought the Automatic Coop Door Opener Kit back in 2018 and this has been a sound investment. Since then, my chickens are released every morning and secured at night. The system is super reliable. Without question, customer service is exceptional and always have provided support to resolve any issues. I have had to replace a battery which is normal for the time in service.

We purchased the kit with solar panel in the summer. Installation was a snap and the kit included everything needed. The solar panel is well built and has a stout bracket and the actuator and housing are beefy and appear very well made. Everything in the kit is very high quality. Our coop is a converted stables and the half door is quite large; the actuator handles it with ease and the static holding force is very high; more than adequate to keep the coyotes from getting any funny ideas. It only took 2 days for the the girls to comprehend when the door would close and we've never lost a single chicken to the night life. After several months of perfect operation the days are getting shorter and we made some changes to our coop and modified our installation to include a timer. We ended up with a hiccup (user error!), the folks at Coop Controls/Ghost Controls promptly returned our call and helped get us out of trouble. Its tough to find a well made product and a company willing to support it these days. Thanks for a great product and ownership experience; highly recommended.

This automatic coop door works as described. It took the majority of a day to install it but we got it done. Because of the location of our coop and the fact that we had to put the control box closer to the ground than we would have liked, it wasn't picking up sunrise at the appropriate time (the door opened at 8:30 am). We purchased an external photosensor from the coop controls website, mounted it up near the solar panel and the door opened at 6:30am. Perfect! This was an amazon warehouse product and I think the alarm doesn't work but we don't need it.

I installed mine a few months ago and it works great. easy to assemble and so far very reliable. Makes having chickens much easier

Originally I was very pleased with this door opener. I cut my full size door in half and it reliably opened the door for about 16 months. After that it slowly started to not close the door all the way. And despite having a clean optical sensor the door wouldn't open in the morning until like 9....then it would randomly close when it got cloudy. Now when it closes it only gets the door closed about 75% of the way. Yes the battery is good, yes it clean. Yes I've spent a bunch of time.troubleshooting it. And THAT is the issue....+$150 a year to open and close a door unreliably is more than I'm willing to spend again. I encourage you to read the reviews that are over 1 seasons old.
