Be Joyful (Philippians): Even When Things Go Wrong, You Can Have Joy

The description was "Some overall wear from reading, has a few creases." The book itself was in good condition, however, it was marked up inside with notes along with words and sentences underlined. It makes it distracting to read. If the description would have included the book was marked up with notes and underlined text, I would not have purchased it. Out of all my purchases, this is the only one I have not been satisfied with. So, really, a small thing in light of my overall satisfaction with purchases from Amazon.

Great book and shipping, worth the money.

As someone prone to anxious thoughts, this book helped remind me of God's love in giving His children the "recipe" for peace. It includes right praying, right thinking, and right living. What a blessing from God to give us the example of Paul.

Absolutely love the study and practical application the author offers in his commentary. He is full of wisdom and the language is accessible and real to the average person.

I love Wiersbe's commentaries. I have several of them now and he does a good job at pulling out excellent points that are based on the cultural context of when the book (Philippians) was written. Several times he has opened my eyes to a theme or meaning that I hadn't realized before. The discussion questions at the end of each chapter are only so-so (these were added probably by an editor well after the original publication date of the original commentary text by Wiersbe). One note (criticism) I have is that Wiersbe's Calvinistic theology shows through in his comments on Philippians 3 where he claims that if you fail to follow the rules of the race you won't lose your salvation but you will fail to gain the prize (he never explains what the difference is or what the "prize" might be). Obviously those who hold to the doctrine of "Perseverance of the Saints" will disagree with my criticism on this point. Wiersbe's commentaries are not overly technical nor overly simplistic. They are an excellent resource for ministers, teachers, and layperson alike.

This commentary is insightful and applicable to every stage of life in our walk with Christ! I definitely recommend this book.

Firstborn have to admit I wasn't totally focused as I listened to this book. I was driving. But I will also admit that my subconscious must of registered more than my conscious mind because it lightened my mood and as silly as this sounds, made me feel good. Like it wasn't just me and the dog driving back home. Even made a promise to myself to read it again, highlight and make notes. Thank you.

Reading this book is like listening to a sermon. My husband and I do a couples bible study. This book is an excellent supplement to the book of Philipians. This series was recommended in a Bible College class that we took. Praise God. Someone made the word of God clearer so us lay people could understand the word fully. This is the type of book that ministers must use for their sermons and research. This company also publishes a complete BE series for all the books in the bible. I bought the set that had 6 volumes in it. in order to truly LIVE the word, I needed to first UNDERSTAND it completely. The book is organized so you can read a segment of the scripture. Then go back and read the bible commentary. There are good questions at the end of each segment that open the floor for good dialogue for any size group.

I truly enjoyed this study❤️. This is a must have for every Christian household. I usually just skip through certain areas of some Bible studies but this book made me want to go back to the scriptures and read and let it absorb 😌. My first study of Philippians was with Dr Charles Stanley and 2 nd Warren Wiersbe. It’s like listening to them teaching and explaining God word in the comfort of your home. I want to do the study again❤️

I really enjoyed this book. I am studying Philippians and it very much aligned with what I had already understood and helped to deepen my understanding and bring new ideas I hadn't thought of. Very helpful, as well as the practical section at the end for living out what I've learned. I recommend this book.

This book has been a source of joy and strength. An easy read that will encourage and challenge. This book helped during a tough time. Highly recommended.

The book of Philippians is one of the easier books to read and Wiersby's commentary draws out the depth of meaning and the practical implications behind Paul's words.
