The Naked Gospel: The Truth You May Never Hear in Church

this book sheds a whole new light and perception on the Gospel
Many will hate this book, some virulently and some even politely, because is comes against everything taught for 2 millinnia. People don't like their traditions challenged. Much like the Pharisee's and Sadducee's reaction to Christ and the apostles. Not that I am equating Farley to Christ but the analogy is the same. This book sheds new light on so many things. So many things never made perfect sense to me before. So many things seems to have been stretched to fit the standard interpretation like the skin on a drum. But the concepts that Farley exposes here change all that. They make BETTER sense than they ever did before. I still struggle myself against my own thought process' cemented in the old way of thinking. But unlike the skin of a drum pulled and stretched to fit the theory this one fits like your own skin, supple and pliable. It simply fits. Thank You Andrew Farley for writing this. It has been a vehicle that has granted me such freedom from the past as well as present inability to 'earn' our way home. We a citizens of heaven, not earth. That citizenship is freely given not earned in any way.I never liked Paul, he was harsh cruel almost when I read his words. But after the light Farley sheds on him I have a new found love and respect for Paul. I FINALLY UNDERSTAND HIM. He NEVER made sense before. Now that his words are placed in context I see Paul for the kind man he was. In many ways it feels like I am reading my bible for the first time. The whole New Testament reads so completely different to me know. They way I was taught was that we are not under Law but under grace but then law upon law was heaped upon us, in the old and the new. A great contradiction that no one admitted to or addressed but everyone tried to make 'fit' they pulled and stretched until it did fit, tight like the skin of a drum. No one ever just simply looked at it and reasoned it out. WHY? I don't know the answer to this question and I may never know it but it is enough to have this new book show new concepts that work better than anything has before. The nay sayers will never let up. They will always be there to bully, conjole, and guilt everyone they can back into the old way of thinking. A Modern day Sanhedrin all though many will do so innocently with the best of intentions thinking they are serving God. Sorry a little of my own frustrations seeping out there, but it had to be voiced because it will and is happening.C. Stephans sorry for your misperceptions and completely incorrect interpretation. Your dependance on tradition is as blatent as the noon sky. however you at least appear to be trying to present in a peacful manner. Your presentation is misleadin and convoluting. You know farley is correct here. and you have tried to present your own prejudice as face by listing farley's page bnumbers byut you have backed up nothing of your own argument. let go of your predujices and look with out the blinders. I hope you are able to overcome these limitations. We are meant to be united, one body, under Christ. Just let go!When you wrote your review of the naked gospel did you actually research the data or just wing it? Because it really reads like you winged it based on an acceptance and adherence to traditional cultural Christianity. I respect your point of view but i think it is grossly irresponsible to write a review that your did not proof and is based on a cultural traditional bias rather than biblical truth. Your comment is based SOLELY on church tradition rather than biblical fact.Andrew Farley, Thanks!

A fresh look at God's scandalous grace.
Do I agree with Andrew on every theological point? No. But we all error theological. What I agree with Andrew is what the Gospel message is: 100% faith by grace and no works. The Gospel is not about being good. None of us can be or are good. The Gospel is our faith in Jesus. Nothing more. Andrew does a great job laying out the case for true freedom in Christ. The books starts out awkward, but recovers well and he defends his arguments (even the very few I disagree with) in an excellent and readable manner as the book progresses. If you are burdened by Christianity and have no peace, joy or freedom as promised by Jesus, then this book is probably for you.

a Choice serving of Fillet Mignon in the Food for Thought category
Many, if not most, of the reviews I've read about Drew Farley's book have made most of the points I would also make: this is not "news" or a "new" gospel or even a "new" spin on the Word. It is not his own private interpretation. It is an incredibly clear, very solidly Biblical exhortation to live life and that abundantly. And the "problems with Grace" i.e. Jesus + nothing are as old as the New Testament itself. That is the point of the book of Galatians. They missed it too, even after having been taught by Paul himself. One reviewer with a different perspective spoke of Farley ignoring the traditions of the early church. My studies indicate that this is a mixed bag here: does Farley repeat the message of Grace (something quite separate from Mercy, BTW, but that's a different rant) that is found in every generation of the Church since Paul? NO. Absolutely not. This is not a text about Grace In Church History. Is the same story of Grace found in every generation of believers? 100% absolutely YES. This Grace, this freedom, has been discovered and must be discovered by every generation and every individual believer. Paul taught this to the Galatians. Luther understood this. Edwards understood this. Farley understands, and what's more, very capably communicates this to anyone who reads his book.As many other reviews also mentioned, there is nothing "new" in this book; I've heard these teachings all of my christian life. What is different is that Farley has phrased these realities in such a fashion that these truths, "hidden in plain sight," have been made real to my heart as well as my head. This is the most eye-opening book I've read in many years. I've likened it to Brother Andrew's The Practice of the Presence of God. Brother Andy's version hits the experiential reality of God's Presence and Brother Drew's version underscores the Scriptural foundations for understanding, and LIVING that reality that speaks to this age.Is it hard to believe? Definitely. For anyone raised under the "self" focus of the Law, by which I mean that the purpose of the Law is to point out how terribly, wretchedly short we all fall of God's Perfection and that ANY efforts on our part to "earn" any part of Christ's redemptive work for us is SELF focused.I fear I'm not making this incredibly simple, straightforward truth very clear at all. Save yourself a great deal of hassle and read this book for yourself. You might not agree. You might find yourself able to truly rest in God's Amazing Grace in ways that were not possible before. If nothing else, you will definitely find more than a single sitting's worth of food for thought. Some read it and found tough steak. I read it and enjoyed fork-tender Fillet Mignon. In both cases, no pablum.

Lifegiving message.
All I know is that I struggled many years wondering how that if you knew the truth then why did you not feel free. Then 8 years ago things were stripped away, position, church and some friendships. Yeah left naked! only to find that I was loved beyond what I had ever known as I became dependent on the Lover of my soul, as I began to hear what He had to say about me the truth really began to set me free and fear waned. Andrew seems to have gone the same journey, only he has been able to put into words what a lot of us experience but find hard to articulate. This is a gem of a read. No can rob us of the life of Christ within which is the most exciting and mysterious gift we have !

Give this to your friends and family who need to know who the freedom peace and rest of this Good News! .... Truth by definition is exclusive and timeless and Andrew Farley has crafted words to free your mind to choose life and live. Breathe the freedom life to the full as you explore the truth of the gospel accounts, together with the balance of the New Testament teaching about the risen, living and indwelling Christ; especially Hebrews, Romans and Corinthians. Jesus Christ, our irriducible minimum is all we need and it's He we gather to celebrate in Life together. By far the best christian 'modern' book I have read in 45 years. Learn from it, the Freedom Peace, Rest, Joy, Hope that is ours to have. The author's other three books are well worth reading too, although read this one first.

EXCELLENT
In simple terms Andrew Farley lifts the lid off how OT law is not something belonging to the NT believer. If you have struggled with living up to the standard set by God and feared his rejection cos you just dont seem to be able to measure up... fear not... truth is at hand. Excellent book, well written and full of references to the word with very clear explanations of its context in time, culture and the audience to which the books of the NT were written. BRILLIANT.

Thught Provoking For Jesus' Sake
It's clear in this book that Farley is challenging believers to move away from a formal belief in church systems and routines into a more Jesus-centred approach to faith and the gospel. It makes for uncomfortable reading for those who are set in their ways where life in Christ is concerned, but if you're concerned for what God has to say, it'll be worth your while considering what Farley offers.
