Practical
A long time ago I had Lymes disease, which pretty much raced through my entire body and ravaged it. I had been an incredibly fit person my whole life and I lost that - across the board - balance, muscle tone, stability, etc...It took several years of close attention to detail: diet, mental affirmation and good old perseverance but I got it all back. I'm now 62, and more fit and flexible than many 40 year olds. Last week I climbed to the top of the monkey bars to get a scared child down from the top because its 30 year old mother could not! This book builds awareness of how to preserve what you have, so you will not be in danger of losing your muscle tone. It does it with things around the house and common sense movement. You will not build a "hard body" with this book. You WILL preserve your tone, strength and balance - which studies continually show are necessary for health, well being and quality of life. Its also a nice thing to see actual old people - who look fit - show the exercises. No models, real people like your drinking buddy.

USS John Rogers
A few years back in central Florida I picked up a book called Dutton’s navigation and plotting and it must have been yours because it says Gary A. Palmer. I was wondering if this was you?

but also better. Using simple language and citing convincing evidence
One stop practical guide to how you can use simple exercises, diet and changes in attitude to make your health and life longer, but also better. Using simple language and citing convincing evidence, Gary Palmer creates a very doable program to fit his attitude that the older you get the more you need to exercise and practice better eating habits. His argument that getting older does not mean settling for 'less', but pushing yourself for 'more' fits the idea that 'if you don't use it, you lose it', but more importantly, his personal story, photographs of himself doing these simple routines, provides the tools and strategies in a very readable and compact package where nothing else is required but an open mind and an eagerness to get the most of of your life. I found it the most clear and easy to understand, non-preachy, life-change book I have read in my search to make each day a step toward not just living longer, but living better. Thanks Gary for a great inspirational program that anyone can do at any age. Mark H. Newhouse, author of Ectos, The Ghost Doctor's Assistant and Ectos, The Burning.

Age is Just a Number
“Survival of the Fittest” is very well researched and a practical approach to healthier living. As Gary studied and researched his writing, we experienced the benefits and have practiced the lifestyle for the past five years. Through personal experience, we significantly improved our health and have reversed many aging side effects. I would recommend this book to men and women 40 and older who sincerely want to make positive changes to their quality of life or would just like to improve their good health.
