In the end the entire 4th grade all did their own graphic novels and loved it. This book was an excellent resource
I used this book when helping the 4th grade classrooms at my kids school learn about graphic novels and how to do one. In the end the entire 4th grade all did their own graphic novels and loved it. This book was an excellent resource. If you are interested in comics or graphic novels this is a great book to get you started.

THIS IS NOT WHAT I THOUGHT IT WAS. IT'S MORE OF A BOOK TO READ INSTEAD TO DRAW IN.

Amazing storytelling resource in visual form
This book takes an amazing approach to storytelling with tips I've never heard in any other writing book. It's a quick and entertaining read and definitely worth reading multiple times.Though it's a book about drawing your own comics, it's more focused on storytelling than actual drawing. As such, this isn't the sort of book you need if you're looking for an instruction manual on drawing in general. But if you're looking to improve your storytelling craft--whether with art or in general--I definitely recommend giving this book a try.Though it's mainly for young adults, as an adult myself I've gotten many valuable tips from its pages. The activities at the end if each chapter are particularly insightful.Overall, this book has given me a slew of great ideas for my own writing, and now I'm considering doing storyboards for my own novels.

He laughs
This is not our first stab at a cartooning guidebook. But this one is really, really good. And it's funny, which means my often-serious son... laughs! when he reads it.Give it a try -- help your child see the humor all around and convey it visually. The book is good for teaching the "grammar" of comics, and giving your child lots of ideas for practicing. It even discusses pacing and panel size. It's full of helpful tips, including the "magic if." There are lots of pointers and starters given for your artist to see things in new ways. I'm impressed.
