The Planet Earth Collection (DVD)

A godsend. I keep it for emergency lesson plans. All PG. I leave a note that there are normal animal eating animal scenes. In general middle school kids like it enough to sit for an hour.

If you're sick of bad news, need a break from all the world's trouble and videos with people being cruel to people isn't the fix you hoped for, cozy up to this video. You can watch for a few minutes or many hours, it's a great escape. Why isn't THIS on the news I wonder! There is surprising information about our earth that we just aren't taught that will thrill you to your core. Nevermind the stunning videography and the truly great David Attenborough. Keep it handy because this is something you can escape to over and over again, it never gets old.

Always having been a deep admirer of flora and fauna, I am in awe every time I watch these films. Whether you believe in God as the creator of heaven and earth and all its inhabitants or in the theory of evolution, these films take you by storm. Not only have I gained immense knowledge of our planet and wildlife but watching these documentary films of the incredibly fascinating world of animals deepened my respect for God's creations even further. I recommend watching them as many of us underestimate animals, their intelligence and spirit, their endurance, smarts, sense of family, fine instincts, incredible survival skills and their lives in harmony with nature. It becomes clear that everything in nature is closely connected - there is no ONE without the OTHER - and that biodiversity is hugely important in maintaining a healthy ecosystem and all the life in it. Despite gaining more and more knowledge of these beautiful creatures and our planet (thanks to people like David Attenborough and his entire team, and many others who venture out to explore), there is still so much left to learn! Will we ever know it all? I doubt it as this world filled with the greatest wonders is too magical and mystical a place for humans to fully comprehend. While it is David Attenborough's name that is mostly known in connection with Planet Earth, I think that the entire crew working behind the scenes should receive more accolades for making these documentary films happen.

This series is as good as the others with even more fantastic footage. The sad thing is, you get updates on how human are working to save the planet, and it isn't good news.

The shows are always educational and informative and always give us info as to the currently endangered circumstances of each microclimate. Far less "preachy" than the Blue Planet series, and with far greater beauty and variety in both landscapes and animal behavior. A great value pack as you get all shows of both series plus extra discs with nature-themed shows from Nature and other PBS channels. A must for every home, especially those with impressionable children.

Hopefully you know what you’re getting here—some of the most stunning and impactful nature footage ever presented, and narrated by the incomparable David Attenborough. So why not 5 stars? Because there is absolutely no disc information. This is an 8 disc set, and if I want to know what segments are on each disc, I will have to look that up on the internet. WTF? I am a high school science teacher and I already own the first Olanet Earth set, but over the years some colleagues borrowed discs and not returned them, and I can’t pin them down... so I needed to replace 2 discs and thought I might as well buy the complete collection. The am super disappointed about the package having no information. About what’s on each disc—especially because I will likely leave these for future emergency sub lessons, and will have to trust that a substitute teacher will be able to find the correct segment. Argh! I guess I’ll have to write the info on each disc myself with a sharpie...

Completely Worth It. I fall asleep with it on. Not overly loud with music or weird noises. I have tinnitus in both my ears. Back ground noise is key to a good nights sleep.

I highly recommend these movies to people of all ages this is a great film
