I was looking for a generic metal box. This was much better than I had anticipated. It's a good solid, well built and finished metal box with a bit of insulation to boot. This will do the job nicely of keeping my small, solid-state electronics protected. A metal box, sometimes called a Faraday box when used for electronics, will help protect solid state devices from EMP (electro-magnetic pulse). This box will hold USB drives (thumb drives, jump drives), SSDs (solid state drive) and other mechanisms for storing important data and photos. Of course it will also hold digital cameras, small emergency radios, or other small solid state devices needing electronic protection. It's not perfect electronic protection, but certainly a big help.

I have no idea WHAT some of these people are talking about, but I can tell you if I had paid any heed to to their idiotic reviews, I would have missed out on getting a really great security box for my checkbook, records, and sensitive statements I don't want others to see. Certainly, it isn't absolutely break-in-proof (no box really is), but if anyone tries to open it, there is no way that person's efforts can go undetected, thus DISCOURAGING them from even trying - and so this box HAS SERVED ITS PURPOSE! HA! They won't want me to know they've been trying to see how much money I have in my account, but I will have caught them red-handed! The box is very well constructed, locks and unlocks just fine. It is the ONLY box out there in the perfect size - smaller than most of the others but big enough to hold quite a few documents and small objects. If you are interested in keeping something hidden from the snooping eyes of someone who doesn't want you to know they tried to access that information, this is the box for YOU! If you are looking for an indestructible container for valuables and jewels, go get a real safe. Never mind the incompetent reviewers who left the negative reviews - they probably mishandled the lock and are hastily blaming STEELMASTER - a company who has done a superb job!

First off, remember that you get what you pay for, so if you are trying to buy a security box that will withstand the apocalypse, then maybe this isn't for you. However, if you want to purchase a decent metal lock box that can offer reasonable security for your items, buy this one. The metal is durable and not flimsy like a cash box, and it has a decent amount of room inside. It comes with two keys which is nice. I haven't tested to see how fire retardant it is because I'm not an idiot, but it is safe to say that since it is not insulated or airtight it will probably not protect paper documents inside from extreme heat or smoke damage.

Basic..good product

It works great for my needs. I use it to lock a set of keys and the TV remotes in and keep the key to the box itself on my keychain. It's not too heavy and it's just the right size. I haven't had any issues with it so far.

It's more heavy duty than it looks. Actually more than just thin metal, however I STRONGLY recommend against using it for fire protection. Only containers that have a UL (Underwriters Laboratory) listing should be used for fire protection! It does not appear to have a UL listing. Understand that this is NOT a safe. But it's good for just keeping things organized and mild privacy protection like casual snooping.

I have bought two other boxes in which to secure valuables that were more pricey than this because I wanted to store documents and jewelry in them and wanted a high degree of fire and water protection. Though they were both from the same brand, one locks really well and the other one is a little testy when locking and I am always worried one day its lock will bit the dust. For this one, I didn't need that level of protection and as I was just looking for something to store my kids's phones during "off-phone" time (yes, it has come to that). This is a pleasant-looking (if a lock-box can be called pleasant-looking) box. I decided to try the lock as soon as I got it out of the box. Luckily I didn't put anything in it first. It locked ok, though the lock was a little stiff. But then it refused to unlock. Nothing I tried would induce it to unlock with either of the two keys provided. Whether I tried gentle pressure or a lot of pressure, whether I tried unlocking it with the key partially pulled out or the key pushed all the way in, no "open sesame" for me. I am not sure if the lock mechanism was defective or if they sent me the wrong keys. Either way, it was a total bust in terms of my needs.

THIS SECURITY BOX IS VERY LIGHT WEIGHT. IT HELD ALL THE THINGS I NEEDED FROM A DIFFERENT, VERY HEAVY BOX I HAVE.
