Elebarate install but worth it in the end..
I was able to install in return duct and safely have it turn on and off when the blower comes on... Using a dwyer series 530 air flow switch using the normally open leg and hard wiring it in and plugging into a Z-wave plug to ensure it is off when changing or cleaning the filter... With this setup you can easily change the bulbs out when they die.. When changing the plug I tell alexa to turn the UV light off using Z-wave and it works perfect.. This is a DIY setup so if you do not know how to wire a new plug in and make it work do not try this...

You'll notice a difference in days
There is a noticeable difference in my home. As soon as we come home everybody gets stuffed up. When we first wake up everyone is stuffed up. We buy 90day 3m filters the best at our local hardware store but change it every 30 days to cut down on the stuffiness. I have notice no one in the house has a stuffy nose in the morning or when we wake up in the morning after only 2 weeks. We felt the difference with in 3 days. This was so easy to install took me 15min and the only reason it took that long was cause I had to move my deep freezer to get to the plug. This company has a great product here. UV cleaning is the new way to clean, and at the microscopic level.

Works, but that's no reason to charge so much. (Price has dropped considerably since I bought in 2014)
With the right tin snips, and a roll of foil tape, installation is a breeze, in a decent system, and if you use your head instead of the instructions. I made my own template directly from the unit (without the bulbs in, I dipped the sockets in a bit of tempera paint and "stamped" my cardboard, wiped the paint off the sockets. I eyeballed/rough-measured the rest; it's not going to seal because of an expertly cut pair of holes). I also used a visible light inside the system with the room lights off to detect any light leaks. 80's construction sucks. I used half a roll of tape. (I want my *old* house back. I wouldn't have needed this in the first place. It baffles me why the better public schools are near the stupidly built houses, and just as much why all the really good buildings are being left to rot while we keep putting up cheap crap.) This needs a light-blocking foam seal. I taped around mine, which makes it either an incredible hassle trying to make foil tap pretty, or just plain ugly. I just wanted it in asap. Just make sure to check for light leaks and seal them. Small vision (or any) damage over time can be pretty damaging, and you don't have an event to identify it. I did catch a wee of *indirect* light in my peripheral vision. I can still see it an hour later. My ophthalmologist basically said there isn't much they'd do about it, but I'm first-hand convinced the lights will kill stuff. 2017-07-24: Just replaced the first set of bulbs, about three years after I installed it.

As described - it does produce 254nm light
I was interested in using this device for 254nm UVC to sterilize n95 masks. To do that, it needs to produce 254nm light as claimed by the mfgr. I purchased a General Tools & Instruments UV512C meter to verify this and am happy to confirm that this unit does produce that light. From a cold start, the unit takes about 4 minutes to reach full UVC output. At startup it's output is only about 1/3 of maximum. After warmup the meter, when positioned 5.5" away and centered between the lights showed 3,450 microWatts/cm^2 of UVC light. There was a slight decline as the unit operated and after 10 minutes the measurement was 3,182 microWatts/cm^2 of UVC light. These measurement occurred in a small 17.5”x14”x8.5” foil lined box, so this included both direct and reflected light. With the unit on the ground outside of the reflective box, bulbs pointing up, and meter 12" to the side looking at the center between both bulbs, the unit gave 358 microWatts/cm^2. Moving 90 degrees off to the side so the meter was looking through one bulb to the other, and 12" from the center of the bulbs gave 466 microWatts/cm^2.

Easy straight forward install
My only complaint with this device is the fact that every time you have to change the light bulbs you will have to put more foil back tape to seal the unit back to the HVAC system. I think the system should have been sold with a self-sealing unit. I shouldn't have to peel away the foil tape and replace every time I have to change the bulbs.

Great for it's intended purpose-Needs line of sight to bacteria.
It's similar to an ozonater, but needs line of sight with the germs to kill them. So works great in it's intended use in a airflow system. It does have a slight burnt smell, hard to describe, but I can see how it is confused with ozone, but it is not ozone. I ran a fan over this in our storage room which has moisture problems and mildew issues. The air smelled 100% perfectly clean in 20 minutes or less with that slight burn smell I described. It definitely keeps the air clean, but I'm sure the cracks and crevices still have mildew. For that type of purpose you're going to need an ozone machine, but for the furnace, this thing really does the job. It doesn't irritate your nasal passages like ozone does, but your probably smelling the airborn charred remains of bacteria and such, hahaha.

This is my first review but felt i should share ...
This is my first review but felt i should share. I had a new system installed in my home about 14 months ago. Well after the winter i turned on my a/c and smelled mildew right away. I called the installer and they mentioned installing a uv light for around 500.00. Thats when i started researching uv lights and diffrent products. I decided to try this one. I order 2 units for both of my systems. Although only 1 of my systems had smelly air i wanted to benefits of the uv light thoughout my home. These installed in about 15min each. After the install i waited 24hrs before running my system. Then i tested the results and the smell was gone entirely. This shpuld be proof of what these things can do.
