Product Description I Give It A Year is a brand new comedy from the writer of Borat and Bruno that lifts the veil on the realities of the first year of marriage.Starting where other romantic comedies finish, I Give It A Year asks what happens after the epic romance and the fairy-tale wedding? When the confetti has been recycled and the presents packed away. Since they met at a party, ambitious high-flyer Nat and struggling novelist Josh have been deliriously happy despite their differences. As those luminary philosophers DJ Kool Kat and Paula Abdul once decreed, it appears that opposites attract, Josh is a thinker, Nat’s a doer, he’s laissez faire and she’s quite anal….but the spark between them is undeniable. Their wedding is a dream come true, but not everyone shares their excitement. Family, friends and even the minister who marries them aren’t convinced that they can last. As they settle into real life together, their apparent incompatibility only makes Nat and Josh more determined to make it work, but soon the absurdities and flaws they once found so endearing are irritating the hell out of each other. Chloe, Josh’s ex-girlfriend, and Guy, Nat’s handsome American client, could offer attractive alternatives…….. With their first anniversary approaching, neither wants to be the first to give up, but will they make it? .co.uk Review If you're one of those who sits through the average romantic comedy and instantly tires of the formula, then the makers of I Give It A Year very much have you in mind. For this is a film that starts with the wedding, and then charts how things, bluntly, don't go to plan in the twelve months that follow. The couple at the heart of the story are played by Rafe Spall and the always-excellent Rose Byrne, and neither of them play characters who come out of this particularly well. If there's a problem with I Give It A Year, it's that it's hard to root for the key duo, no matter how much fun the performances are. However, very much in the film's favour is the quality of its jokes. Director Dan Mazer has form working on the likes of Borat, and his ability to generate a giggle, whether comfortable or not, is very much to the movie's credit. Furthermore, Mazer wisely stocks his film with some excellent supporting players. We don't see enough of the likes of Minnie Driver on screen, and her cameo here is a welcome one. Furthermore, Stephen Merchant's wedding speech is pitched exceptionally well, balanced cringe and laughs adeptly. And Anna Faris adds another good comedic role to her own resume. I Give It A Year is sometimes a little raw, and certainly not a first date movie. But it is a funny one, and it is a movie that's willing to take some risks with the genre in which it finds itself. For that, and many other reasons, it deserves real credit. --Jon Foster

Just a Simple Sort of Love Story - Such A Fun Movie
You will either love it or hate it. Brilliantly cast and acted by all. Great photography and direction. Not very original but it drives on at a laugh a minute pace (when you are not cringing). I loved it, and am sure will watch again. Great Sound Track

Well....i found it, for the most part, rather funny .
Well, all I can do is hold my hands up , beg for forgiveness from the half of the audience who seem to loathe this film , but never the less admit that I found "Give It A Year" frequently very funny indeed. The plot ,such as it is has Nat ( Rose Byrne) and Josh( Rafe Spall) meeting , failing for each other with head spinning speed , marrying in haste ,then several months down the line once the initial excitement has worn off having to attend marriage counselling sessions ( A quite brilliant cameo from the ever excellent Olivia Coleman ) whilst at the same time both holding candles for someone else.No claims could be made for this film as a work of cinematic genius . The two leads are actually rather annoying , the conclusion so utterly predictable and cringingly trite it would make a five year blush with embarrassment . Plus I'm not really sure that the central message is really that commendable -either sod everyone else and make yourself happy ( Thatcherism in essence) or if Minnie Driver & Jason Flemyng characters are to be used as signifiers , just put up with each other...no matter what.Yet for all that , this romantic comedy made me laugh ....and quite loudly on occasions .Not much makes me do that nowadays .Stephen Marchant has a wonderful cameo as a truly idiotic best friend of Josh -his best man speech really does push the boundaries of bad taste -for which incidentally hurrah! Flemyng and especially Driver are also commendably bitter and twisted and the cameos of Nigel Planer and Jane Asher lead to some of the films best scenes.Lets make it clear I could have done without the corporate melding ( synergy as they no doubt would put it ) of Simon Baker & Rose Byrne and the dippy haphazard rather childish what ever it is that Spall & Anna Faris as Chloe end up in but them actually getting there is actually rather good fun.So not exactly a work of dazzling profundity but then I'm sure it was never meant to be . It's a bit of laugh , a lot of a laugh at times and it does push the genre out there, taking some risks along the way. For any film nowadays that is something to be cherished.

Simon Baker marry me!?
I would enjoy watching Simon Baker just breathing so his performance in this comedy is simply a delight. I have already seen it 7 times! It's a little rude in parts so caution is advised if kids or shy relatives are around .It is essentially a love conquers all movie and is perfect for the hopeless romantic. Lovely film.

Hard to categorize
This film is clearly meant to be the answer to the traditional romantic romcom by turning the classic story on its head. Instead of ending with a wedding, it begins with one, which friends and relations consider to be doomed from the start. Although it's funny in places, I found it disturbing in some ways. A very cynical and shallow look at this most important institution in our society. If our young people watch too many of these films they will grow up believing that the only thing that matters in life is your own feelings and that, rather than trying to make a marriage work, you should cut your losses and divorce ASAP. Depressing

Surprisingly good
If you can't handle second-hand embarrassment at times you won't be able to handle this movie. Looking at the other reviews this seems to be true. It's a nice movie with silly jokes. The actors are good and the movie seems to do what it set out to. It's going to be like it or hate it due to the type of humour.

The film of the year
I have to say I am astonished by some of the reviews regarding this film. They are entitled to their views, but please ignore them. This is one of the funniest films I have seen in a very long while. The trailer for the film looked funny, but was it that old chestnut, of "have they shown the best bits" Well don't worry they haven't.I think the test of a good comedy film is would you buy it on DVD when it comes out? The answer was most definitely yes.I was still laughing about this film, days and even weeks after I'd seen it.Parents buying the film should note that there is bad language in it.If you need cheering up, look no further. Highly recommended.
