Beautiful grass
I regret lots of money spent on other brands that resulted in ugly grass or failed growth. Black Beauty is the only one that produces grass you would want to look at. The Dense Shade is the only one that actually takes hold in deep shade. And it grows to a desireable length rather than racing to wheat stalk height between mowings like the competitors' weed-looking grass. What sense is it to compare price when the other ones are an assured fail?

Happily surprised!
Have a 75'x75' area I cleared in a wooded section of my back lot to put up a ham radio antenna (yea, I'm a geek...deal with it 😎). Promised my wife I wouldn't take down any more trees than absolutely necessary, which left the clearing heavily shaded with barely any dappled light filtering in a couple of hours a day.Expected to just let the wild ground cover take over, but since the soil was nicely prepped and graded after the antenna work was done, figured I'd give this deep shade seed a shot. Pictures are from September 30th, 2024, 10 days after seeding. WOW! Germination at a very acceptable rate given the cool temps we've had and of course the lack of sun back there. Watered per directions, and I've had to leaf blow every couple of days to keep it from being smothered. Will update this review next spring when I see how it winters over but at this point I'm very pleased.

Pretty but not for foot traffic
This grew in a very heavily shaded area where no other grass seed could. The only disappointment is that it doesn’t tolerate foot traffic very well. We isolated the seeded area for 8 weeks to allow the grass to set roots and the grass came in thick and is a very pretty emerald green. But, shortly after we started to allow moderate foot traffic the grass began to die. It’s a very fine blade grass and seems very fragile.

Grows in a Beautiful Blue Green and Stays Pretty Short by Itself
I live in Oak Tree City which means grass does not have a chance. I have a dog and do not like mud so grass is essential if I want to avoid ticks, fleas and all the other dirt loving things.SW FLORIDA DECEMBER and MARCH I DID aerate the lawn, with shoes that have deep cleets and I did add Scotts Turf Builder a few rains first. I did use a bag of this and made SURE I watered a LOT LOT LOT. So I waited for four days straight of rain which we did get.Because once the oaks grow full again I doubt any seed will have much a chance. The grass is BEAUTIFUL although not bright green i prefer. Far better than dirt though - is DURABLE seems to grow at a slow rate which is great for not having to mow much compared to other lawns I have had and i see no better brand.Water is really important - and maybe aerate with cleets for those few that do not seem to have much luck. I used 1/2 25 pound bag up front and 1/2 in the back. 1/4 acre max size up front and 1/4 acre in back. This stuff is so expensive I did do quarter bag first whirl on both and a month later did the rest of the bag a month later. I will KEEP over seeding the lawn so that I have a lawn to even worry about.

Takes a lot to get established
I live in a 110 year old house that was re-sodded in about 2016. There's some big trees that shade the lawn. Between leaves smothering grass from the previous owners not raking them, and the shade, the lawn was pretty thin. The lawn has no in ground irrigation, so any watering is done manually with sprinklers. Last year I used JG Black Beauty, watered twice a day for 2 weeks, then started watering less and most of it ended up dying off. This year I used this Dense Shade thinking the lack of sun was part of the problem, I bought timers for the sprinklers, and spent a lot of time prepping the ground and ensuring it was watered, and again, as I backed off watering, a lot of it ended up dying off again. I then overseeded again with Scotts seed, same process, and it established pretty nicely. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, and maybe with more sun or more watering to establish it would take off, but my conditions and what I was able to do labor wise, it just wasn't working for me.

Great Grass seed for shade
I have a shaded canopy yard and so shaddy zip only mow twice a year. After trying numerous grass seed varieties I've found this best.Germinated quickly 7 to 10 days had 1/2" long seedling blades.I simply watered the area very early and very late at night twice a day. Not long 20 minutes each watering. This grass grew normally seeded by removing old grass by roto-tiller then raked and seeded. Hard way 95% growthThe grass grew well just scattered after racking the surface. Lazy way. 70% growth.I will continue to buy from here until they sell out. Great product!!
