No ,if you follow the directions ,I just spit on mine and the give me a good test ...do do that if you are eating drinking coffee or pop ,or water just plain saliva .

I have received several orders of these test strips and have not seen any foil. The strips work fine. I collect saliva in a spoon and dip the test portion of stop in it for about 5 seconds, so I avoid pUrging the chemicals in the mouth.
