Please read update at the bottom of this review. This light is smaller than I imagined. It is 16cm high with the rotating circle fixed at highest. The metal stand cannot be removed but you can rotate the light and place the stand in a suitcase with the light flat. It won't take much room - as a light it is more useful than the torch I usually pack and if you could safely leave it in your room somewhere to catch the sun's rays during the day while you were out - great for lighting a strange bedroom without walking anyone else. Just remember where the on/off switch is. I am a bit niggled because the USB cable is only 35cm / 14" long another 15cm would have made a lot of difference. The cable has a RED coloured USB plug at one end and a little plug - same as the one on the charger for my Nokia phone - the teeny size. I think I'll take a short USB extension with the light when travelling. I bought two of the lights and found one already had some charge in it and the other didn't. The one that had charge in it I plugged into my laptop using the USB cable. A red light came on which I assume means it is charging or does it mean the light is connected to a power source. The red light is still ON some hours after I plugged the light into my laptop. The light when switched on is a bit brighter than when it arrived which I would expect - but when will I know when it is fully charged ? The leaflet/card that came with it tells you very little. The switch a white push for on and push for off rectangle is situated under the solar cells just above the little red diode light and the socket for the cable. By the way you can have the light ON when it is plugged into a USB socket thus using and charging at the same time. Being early March and no much sunlight I am not sure how much charge the other light has received or whether it will in fact light up. Will be back tomorrow to add the overnight findings to this review. UPDATE - Well it is 10.30 am. and the first light which has been ON and unconnected to electric power since 3.00 am. so that is seven and a half hours and it is though not bright as at first it is enough to see your way clear across a bedroom floor. The second light lit brightly at 3.00 am. having had only dull daylight I then put that light on USB charge and it has now has a good light. Neither little red light went out while either of the lights were "ON CHARGE" so I have no idea how much charge the lights have absorbed. By the way, whilst the unplugged second light was near my laptop screen its red light came on. So there it is - seven and a half hours and still shining. I am well pleased. Edit - May 2015 Took it on holiday with me. It was half charged. Left it on the pull-cover which covered our belongings in the back of the car as it is so light in weight and by the time we got to Butlins in Skegness it was fully charged by the sunlight. Never needed the charging cable while away. Just popped it on the apartment's windowsill while away for a top up as I needed it at night to find my way to the bathroom to save switching on the large lights. Great as an additional light to read my Kindle ereader by in bed. Very glad I bought 2 of them. Never thought about it but it would be a great light to have in dashboard cubbyhole for added light in the car - just leave it in the sunlight e ery so often.

this little solar light is great, small but bright and lasts hours after being charged...definitely well worth the money...a great little addition to our camping supplies

I love this lantern. d.light lanterns have worked the best of all the solar lanterns I have. Sturdy, keep charge well, keep on working, and put out a good light. My favorite is the S30 though, it doesn't seem available. I was going to give them for christmas presents since the electrical power grid goes out sometime. S3 is wonderful, but the S30 is great for carrying around and keeping by bedside.
