Review: Mom hated fruitcake so as a kid, so naturally, us kids hated fruit cake too. Fruitcake became a joke in our house at holidays, kind of like the "Life" cereal commercial. Once I left the house and traveled the country (and the world), I started trying new things. I don't know where or when it was, but one year I had the opportunity to try Claxton's. I think it was on sale, and I bought some and gave it a shot. Whoa! This was actually super delicious, rich and sweet. The candied fruit (usually the part we hated) was actually tasty. Claxton's fruit is delicious, the fruit has a hint of that aroma and flavor that turns some people off, but not much. The candied fruit is delicious. Then there's the nuts and cake part, all tasty, nothing weird. It's also super moist. Sorry mom, I really like fruitcake. Is Claxton's high end expensive fruitcake, no, but it is high quality and worth every penny. They have a recipe that's iconic, I'm so glad they haven't changed anything. You can rely on the taste. Claxton's is a good fruitcake to offer people that hate fruitcake. The only problem is fruitcake haters a are pretty stubborn lot. You probably won't change their minds, but that's OK, they're missing out, Claxton's great!
