Yin Yoga and Beyond. Great book to advance your practice in multiple ways
I've been leading yin yoga trainings at MOSAIC yoga for a few years now and this is the one book that we ask all practitioners to buy. Sarah has a great knowledge of both anatomy and philosophy. She integrates the teachings of multiple eastern systems seamlessly in this book. Not only are the images great and each yin pose well described but the chapters on the meridians are incredible. If you're interested in learning more about Chinese medicine, Buddhism or yoga this is the book you want. Sarah also has a background in Vinyasa so there is a great section outlining some vinyasa flow sequences at the back! An added bonus. I'm looking forward to attending a training with her next month in Arlington VA.

Explores the space between yoga and meditation.
I read the first page of this book and was so overwhelmed at how truthful it was. I feel like this is the book I've been looking for forever -- it really lives in that place where yoga and meditation meet one another. Yin Yoga focuses on holding poses for longer periods of time, and is thus like a series of short meditations. I also love the chapters discussing the practice of Chinese medicine, and the relationship of poses to meridians. It's written in this very simple, direct way. This book is helping me find my way back to a wholesome, non-judgemental yoga practice. Thank you Sarah Powers!

I return to this resource book over and over. ...
I use this resource book over and over. Sarah included a clear explanation of Chinese meridian theory, sequences to practice for the various meridians, and her suggestions on how to create your own sequences. The combination of clear descriptions and numerous photos are empowering. If you're a student of Yin yoga, this should be part of your library.

I stopped halfway through this awesome book to write this review
I stopped halfway through this awesome book to write this review. It's amazing - inspiring, concise, easy to follow/understand and as informative as you would want it to be. I am in love with it. After years of other styles, I can't wait to begin my own Yin Yoga practice, but I'm being a good student and getting through the whole book first. The pictures are excellent and is one of the most well laid out books of its type that I've seen (and I have many yoga and holistic therapy books!) She imparts the knowledge of meridians, chi, organ and joint health via Yin Yoga very succinctly. I can't fault it. Buy it.

I love the blending!
Sarah Powers melds together pieces of philosophies and practices that she finds to be insightful. I love the blending as this is what I've naturally been drawn to doing throughout the course of my life, and I am more inclined to read a book that is not so strict regarding lineage or a "set way" of practicing. She clearly explains the theories behind Yin Yoga, just as marvelously as Paul Grilley & Bernie Clark do-- but then she also provides excellent, though brief, info on pranayama and Buddhist meditation practices. What Powers ends up providing us readers is a multi-layered practice that incorporates many aspects of yoga: asana (yin & yang), pranayama, & meditation. Practiced in this way, daily, we can cultivate mindfulness, strength, and fluidity. I've been recommending this book to all of my fellow yoga teachers!

Wonderful resource
I have had the good fortune to study with Sarah Powers, in the teacher training programs at Kripalu, a total of 3 weeks and the books is wonderful reflection of Sarah. Of course nothing replaces being with a teacher, and I have 3 notebooks filled with Sarah's words of wisdom from my trainings with her. But when I need some additional inspiration or reminders, this book is close at hand. M Insight Yoga y main teaching now is yin yoga, a much needed yoga to address the connective tissues that start to become a significant issue once over age 40. Great book, buy it, and savor Sarah's insights. Namaste, Grateful student, Tina Ramsden Insight Yoga

This is an amazing book, which integrates elements of Yoga, Buddhism, transpersonal psychology and Chinese medicine into one coherent path. Sarah Powers draws on all these traditions, to offer a way of energising, healing and harmonising mind body and spirit in a deeply personal way. The author describes her understanding of Yoga as 'a process of fully inhabiting ourselves and our life in a radically engaging and inquisitive way,' and I would say that this applies to the approach of the book as a whole. The text is thought provoking, the practical instructions flow and the photographs and diagrams are easy to follow. It can be used to inform and enhance daily practice, and as a 'manual' to consult for helping specific conditions. I am so glad I found it and I use it every day.
