Can this go under the existing hood/lid?

For safety I think not. It is very slender, less than an inch thick, and the metal supports to catch the edges of the aquarium slide in and out to accommodate various widths, so I would guess it would fit under most hoods. The concentrated moisture under the hood bathing the LED electronics would worry me. Is there a way to waterproof it? It says don’t let water splash on it?!

Mine got knocked in the tank during the night. I removed it in the morning when I discovered it. Half the LEDs stopped working and the rest corroded too bad to have and conductance left. So no I would not say it's the least but water safe. Any liquid will damage the connections unless it's a splash and then dried.

Can I use this with reptiles?

These are LED lights. They provide only light (no heat or UV benefit) which are important for a reptile's health.
