Soprano method for adults and older beginners in individual or group instruction.Twelve study units including exercises, folk songs, and music of the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Baroque. Extensive recorder information. Recommended for players who are familiar with the fundamentals of notation. Review: A great resource for adult learners - This is a fantastic book for those who can already read music and are either brushing up on past recorder skills or will receive additional instruction from a teacher, another book, etc. There is minimal guidance provided, but each unit is a pleasant mix of drills and short tunes using the notes the student has learned so far. I’m very impressed at how well designed the drills are to improve dexterity and practice common intervals while introducing new notes. I’m an adult who plays other instruments, can read music fluently, and learned the recorder as a child, and I’m really pleased at how well-suited this book to bring me back up to speed with the recorder. Review: Best recorder book for my age! - This book is exactly what I need really pieces with wonderful exercises.

Very good intro to the recorder
Book starts with low G, giving about 3 pages per new note. Notes taught, in order, are: G, A, B, high C, high D, F#, low E, high E, low D, high C#, low C, F, B flat, and G#. Additional pieces in the back of the book are referenced in the lessons for the notes. A complete fingering chart is at the end of the book. There are also introductory sections on the care of the recorder and it's history. Bottom line: This is an excellent book for a recorder beginner.

Finally, Recorder Instruction for Grown-Ups
I’m a preschool teacher and have limped along playing simple children’s songs for years. This book uses real early music from the Renaissance and other periods, even when teaching the first few lessons! Great drills and instructions on fingering transitions and breath control to get the best sound from your instrument. Highly recommended.

Effective method
This method is wonderful. Plenty of practice for each lesson using the classics of recorder repertoire. I highly recommend.

Great Book for Someone Familiar with Notation
I love this book; easy to dive right in and start playing. I have a background in music (lessons, etc.), so the lack of music theory for reading notes was no issue. I recommend this music book.

Great for Adult Learners
I highly recommend this book for adult beginners learning the tenor recorder. The book is technically for the soprano, but the tenor and soprano have the same fingerings. The book doesn't go into learning how to read music though. So you should already know how to read music before using this book. What it does is provide an introduction to low notes (the second volume goes more into high notes, sharps, and flats).
