Overtone Semi Permanent Hair Color Conditioner, Black Velvet, 8 oz, Nourishing, Damage-Free, Color Depositing Mask for All Hair Types with Shea Butter & Coconut Oil, Vegan & Cruelty-Free

I have black hair and tried out the color depositing mask in black velvet which is a black pigmented mask with blue and purple undertones. I applied this mask all of my hair and left it on for about 20 mins and then proceeded to rinse it out, condition and dry my hair. Upon styling my hair I did notice my hair felt more darker and shinier right afterwards but after a few days and one hair wash, the color was already fading out so just a heads up that it doesn’t last long. This is a great color depositing conditioner for those that want to get a quick and temporary color boost or refresh without dying the hair.

Overall a solid product. There is a learning curve when applying this product a little messy, but it deposited color on my hair. My hair also felt soft and healthy after using it. Unfortunately, it did not fully cover my gray hairs.

I’ve used this three times since I bought it and it is pretty dang good! My family keeps telling me I look like I’m from a hair commercial It doesn’t fully cover grays, but they don’t advertise that it does, it does tint them though so they aren’t blinding. Your hair looks super luxurious and moisturized after you use it. The packaging is tricky to open and you need gloves!

So, this product is good enough to refresh roots when black hair dye grows out. However, wear gloves when you wash it out because it stains nails. Also, prepare to need gorilla strength to open the packaging because it's sealed super tight and there's no tab to pull up the seal 😅 I have pretty long hair, and I used probably about half of the jar. I shampooed and skipped conditioner, then waited until the next day(within 24 hours) to use the dye on dry hair. It made my hair soft, so I highly recommend using this product between permanent dye to give your hair a break!

I used Overtone when it first became a thing. The product slopped everywhere and was super messy. I loved its pigment, though, offering color JUST LIKE I got at a salon. I stopped using it because they constantly had fulfillment issues. I recently picked it back up again after a long hiatus here on Amazon. The pigment…. Leaves room to be desired. I have dark brown hair, so it should be super easy to get to black, but even after leaving it on 15 mins as it said, it just took me to a slightly darker brown. This was surprising, given my previous experience with Overtone. I used half of the can because I have thick hair, which isn’t surprising to me, but the lack of change just gave me a case of the “meh.” I have the suspicion they changed their formula, because the product didn’t get all over me, the sink, the wall, and the ceiling. I used my usual gloves and coloring protector and it was so nice to smooth the color over the hair without losing a ton of product on the floor or all over me. The dye came right off my skin after and all was good. Easy to apply. Probably should’ve left it on longer. Can take a sizable amount to saturate the hair if you’re like me with thick hair. Still giving 5 stars because—even with my most recent dabble in the Overtone arts—my hair is SMOOTH. The best thing I remember about their products, and even though I wish my hair was a little darker, I recommend it to anyone looking for smooth hair. Don’t want color? THEY NOW HAVE COLORLESS MASKS! If I ever want to get away from color, will 100% go that direction. I can’t describe how smooth and healthy my hair feels from their products. Amazing.
