Rebuild Project
This was not my issue. The original one lasted more than 25 yrs…. But, since I rebuilt the other components I did the entire drive train. Should be good for another 25 yrs with the old pc as a spare!

First item to replace
Garage door opener not lifting door screw drive chattering. Ordered coupler, Genie lube, and trolley assembly. After watching some pitiful you tube video's I determined that the coupler was the big problem but the trolley should also be replaced. there was no good video on how to replace it just where it was.The coupler fixed my problem and was of the same quality as the original hope I don't but would buy it again. The original lasted 18 years and know the reason it went bad. Three things to be aware of and check every year (1) the garage door limit switch clean the contacts (this was my problem they were dirty and allowed the motor to keep turning and damaged the coupler) there are two of them. (2) the garage door is balanced as per manual if the spring breaks or becomes too weak it will become difficult for the Genie to lift the door and wear out the coupler or trolley. (3) make sure the rail assembly and screw drive are clean and well lubed.

Worked Great
The coupler worked like a charm. My issue first popped up when the screw drive seemed to be jammed. I looked at the collars between each section and they seemed to be in good shape and then I came across this part. Before I ordered it I went ahead and removed the old one just to make sure it wasn't something else. Here is a quick trick, you need a tall ladder or an extra person. I did mine solo and with a little planning of tools needed(ratchet set, needle nose pliers, regular pliers) it went pretty quick. You have to remove 4 nut/bolt combos to get to this part. The first to are on the track closest to the motor head. The second are the bolts that connect the motor head to the ceiling mounting bracket. Once those are removed, wiggle the motor head away from the track and you will see this coupler. You will need to use a pair of needle nose pliers to get it out and make sure there is nothing else in there. My coupler was bored out on one side and fine on the other. I also used the needle nose to remove the small plastic shavings left behind from the damaged coupler. Install the new part into the motor and then using your needle nose pliers adjust the position of the end of the screw drive to get it lined up. You can then bolt everything back together. This should take care of the issue. If it doesn't, you might need to adjust the small dials to the right of the track on the unit itself. I took each of mine a quarter turn clockwise and the unit runs smooth.

Repaired my 19 year old Genie opener.
I apparently neglected greasing the worm gear on my nineteen year old Genie garage door opener for a bit too long. When very cold weather hit it apparently seized enough that the coupler between the worm gear and head unit failed. These are plastic with an outer steel jacket and are designed to break away if the door hits something unmovable and the safety reverse function fails, a sort of double fail safe device. Installation took about thirty minutes but I am mechanically inclined. Installation requires separating the worm gear rail and the head unit but I installed this unit initially, so it wasn't particularly intimidating. The best five bucks I've spent in several years. Should the door refuse to move when the button is pushed but the motor is running, there's about a 90% chance this part is the culprit, especially if a grinding noise is hear and the door appears to be attempting to move intermittently.

breaks for safety reasons
For a year, my garage door opener wouldn't work. Replaced this part and it works like a charm. It turns out that this part breaks intentionally if there is too much stress on the system... re-aligned tracks and had everything serviced. Good to have a spare one of these on hand.
