Q: Can this be used for initial pool set up? Or is this only for maintaining after initial set up?

The HTH Pool Care Shock is for both initial opening of your pool as well as daily/weekly maintenance. You will always want to maintain a chlorine level of 1-4 PPM. Use the HTH Pool Care 6-1 Test Strips to ensure that your water chemistry is balanced so the safest and cleanest water. Q: Can this be used in hot tubs?

There are smaller containers of shock that are reclosable and more convenient for the spa/hot tub. This package is meant for use in a large volume of water/one time use and should not be divided as the product could retain moisture or become contaminated and cause some off-gassing. Look for the shock in bottles with a lid specifically for spas, hot tubs and small pools. If you have further questions, give our team a call at 866-484-7665.

Q: I used it as my free chlorine was low - total chlorine was OK with ph and acy. However I got no chlorine reading after double dosage shock. Why?

It could be too much and it bleached out your test strip. Let it circulate for an hour or so and test again.
