Now that I've rebuilt my BBQ, I see they are fairly simple devices. This plate, in addition to serving as a back mount for the burners, is said to stabilize the flames between burners.To get mine to work, I had to install metal spacers, which could be nuts, small pipe or anything a screw could go through and that would stand up to heat as well as the other metal surfaces in the BBQ.Swapping the old burners out for generic ones might negate the need for the spacers behind this, since they are adjustable in length.Now that I've spent the forty bucks, I see I bought not just a part, but also a lesson:I could have mounted a piece of 1/8" inch angle iron in place of the old one and it would last years longer, due to the increased thickness.The square cross over pipes to equalize flame could be replaced with pieces of metal pipe secured in place between the burners. A 1/4" gap or even slightly larger between the pipe ends and the burner tubes would be no problem.
