Secret Army - The Complete BBC Series 1

Unmissable
My wife and I are now on the third series, having stayed up until one o'clock in the morning to watch episode after episode. Not only did I miss it on TV, I'd never even heard of it, being too busy listening to John Peel or watching 'The Old Grey Whistle Test'.Set mainly in and around Brussels, the superb Bernard Hepton crosses swords time and again with the Luftwaffe and the Gestapo, represented by Michael Culver and Clifford Rose - also superb - as he tries to get shot-down RAF crew members back to England. The female parts are also faultless, particularly that of Juliet Hammond-Hill. The Germans, too, are shown as more than just cardboard cut-outs, with doubts showing not only about the worthiness of their cause but also methods of interrogation. The Belgians, too, often have divided loyalties, with some working both sides of the street, as could be expected in an occupied country. Would the English have behaved any differently? My word, then there's Valentine Dyall, Ron Pember... I could go on...Just be sorry when it's all over.

Gripping and tense! Fantastic!
You can't watch this without thinking how 'Allo Allo' copied nearly everything in this almost exactly from the characters to the sets like the cafe but after a couple of episodes you completely forget that as the story is so gritty and frightening. As the series progresses you realise that the writers were not afraid of killing off even main characters so you could never think during an episode that it will all turn out ok because very often it doesn't!Highly recommended!

Secret Army...
Love this series, An absolute must for anyone interested in WW2. Though the stories may not be true it gives an insight to how life was in occupied europe. Great time to buy during the lockdown so you can binge watch

Secret Army
This is a classic. A must for all those who have fond memories of the TV series of the 1970s. Secret Army is the story of lifeline. The organisation set up in 1940 to rescue RAF aircrew from the hands of the Gastapo. The acting is superb and the storylines strong and compelling. If you invest in series 1 then you will want to own series 2 & 3. Well worth the investment.Mark BoultonNorth Somerset

As brilliant as the day it was broadcast
One of the most superb series ever. It builds fast and maintains it's pace as it goes. Often real nail biting stuff. Superb acting and writing here make for a brilliant series.
