Not a bad follow up
This is a good follow up to the first season. However, it was not quite perfect. It was enjoyable.

Thumbs Up
GREAT Show from HBO. Love it. Very cerebral, so you better pay attention. Lets put it this way... A bunch of people I know over time raved about this show... I don't have HBO so I blew it off. After so time, I found the 1st season on DVD and it wasn't too expensive so I figured I'd give it a try.The wife and I starting watching this show and after the 3rd episode in season 1 we were thinking.... Well it's OK, but nothing to get all worked up about. It's really hard to follow, the acting is good, but you really have to pay attention to what is going on. We actually were getting ready to stop watching it, but decided to give it 1 or 2 more episodes since I spent money on it.So we watched episode 4. Well then the show flipped and went off the rails. WOW. Now we are hooked.... Great show.

Well, it ain't a CW show, but .......................
If a show gets made that just sucks right from the get go (& many, many do!), but it gets a 2nd season or more (again many, many do) & manages to find its footing, going on to become good or even great (far less common), viewers might well be impressed. But, that's easy enough to accomplish if your thing stinks at first, not so much when it was as fantastic as Westworld has been all along. Any number of 'reviewers' here are chapped between their back pockets over the fact that Season 2 didn't knock Season 1 into the dirt; they really should toddle out to HBO land & grace the Westworld producers/writers with some priceless advice on how to pull that one off. Good luck there, geniuses. The second season is a continuation of the story playing out, not a topper aimed at making you jump up & down and all go, "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!", together. As such, it fills in all manner of holes in narrative & backstory and further develops all the main characters; clarifies the park's real purpose for DELOS and extends beyond old boundaries with new characters & storyline. Now, granted, you need to pay attention & at least be able to at least try to think along with the pictures & sound, if you are going to get anything out of this. I mean, another D-Marvel-C thing or a CW show, it ain't. It is cinematically beautiful, masterfully written, & thought provoking (please see the preceding caveat). As to the acting, well, I see where a number are singing their preference for the 1973 version, but unfortunately Richard Benjamin & James Brolin are past it now and somebody made off with Yul Brenner's clunky circuit board face mask, so we are stuck with the mostly adequate likes of Ed Harris, Anthony Hopkins, & Jeffrey Wright along with some others (that was sarcasm, so don't anybody say, "Yeah, damn right; ..Brolin rocks, man."). Some have objected to the violence, but it's not gratuitous when you consider the world depicted; also, who can really object to the image of a group of sad-faced billionaires perched Tuco-style atop a row of grave markers with nooses around their necks? Maybe it's just me but, after 2 years here in Trump's Great-Again America, I find the notion of dead & dying billionaires infinitely appealing. I never know how much of the ire shows like Westworld, American Gods, etc. draw is prompted by the objection many must feel toward the underlying messages of these stories as applied to our own species. It's very telling to note that in Westworld S2, once the 'hosts' are let loose from the constraint & control of their human masters, they all, even the worst among them, become, to varying degrees, better people than when they were programmed to entertain & satisfy their 'guests'. As for us everyday human beings, let's just forget about all the serial killers, the politicians, & the snuff-film makers among us for a minute. How many (top-seller) 'Grand Theft Auto' players or the good folks who keep that very lucrative 'Hostel' series in their DVD collections for fun viewing, would turn down a trip to Season 1's Westworld; and, absent all consequences, what would finding their 'true selves' look like?

the digital code it comes with is no good
While this season is advertised as coming with a digital version, the redemption code is no good. WB has expired all of the codes for season 2. Discs are fine though.

Part Two
This is a complex series ... you have to think just a little bit ... but what a great program. The story evolution will make you see the never ending ideas the writers have available to them. As the saying goes "if you snooze, you loose" ... and that is how the show works. Some of the reviewers complain about this and that ... just watch the and listen to the story ... if you put in just a little bit of effort the show makes pretty good viewing. Season two is taking these ideas from season one of human escape to a much newer level ... and this makes one think of the human tragedy of, and the trying to believe that, humans can live for ... ever. One thing for sure ... Dolores and Maeve are very powerful characters and they seem to be pushing the series along. I can't wait for season three.

Bien
