I built a golf simulator in my basement last year, and after a lot of research, landed on this projector as the best option. I needed something that would put up with hours of continuous use and had a short throw. After using it for more than a year and probably thousands of hours here's why I would give it a five-star rating. Bright and clear picture When setting up a golf simulator, you need to be in a room with some light so you can see the ball. I worried that a projector would struggle to provide a bright image in this environment. That is not been the case for this projector. It always appears bright and crystal clear even in a room with a lot of ambient light. I've also been impressed with the clarity of the picture. We use it to watch movies and videos from time to time and it really does feel high definition. Easy of Use It couldn't be simpler to use. The remote is easy to operate and even my 12-year-old can go down and confidently operate the projector and golf simulator. It was also very simple to hook up with an HDMI cable out the back of the projector running straight to our iPad. I also found the Keystone adjustments to be easy to work with. It got pretty close to what I needed on its own and I was able to fine-tune things manually. I never read an instruction manual, and everything turned out to be so easy. Performance over long hours of use My two sons are competitive golfers who play tournaments almost year-round. So, I can confidently say we are users of our golf simulator. Sometimes the projector has to run for six or eight hours a day. Even with that we've never seen overheating issues or had any problems with performance. It simply works all the time every time. Summary All that being said, I can't find anything that I would take a star off my rating for. We've truly been happy and I was surprised at how affordable the projector was when we purchased it. So, if you're specifically looking for a projector for a golf simulator or even a home theater situation wherea short throw is important. I would highly recommend checking this one out. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Primary games played: Rocket League (PC) Overwatch (PC), Street Fighter V (local, PS4), BlazBlue (local, PS4), Tales of Berseria (PS4). Netflix (PS4) Setup: My projector is set up via wired HDMI connection on top of a coffee table. It’s slightly less than 4 feet away from the screen and provides a very nice ~84 inch image. As with any expensive projector, you’ll want a screen. Initially I had it projecting on a textured wall as I was waiting for my screen to arrive. The image was good, but not great. After my screen arrived, the image immediately became excellent. Response times: I keep the projector in Game Mode for all my games at all times. While you can purchase an Optoma adapter of some sort for wireless HDMI, it will negatively impact response time. This is true for all wireless HDMI adapters and is especially true if you live in an apartment or high-interference location. That being said, I personally cannot notice any lag with any of my games. This includes my two current fighting games that I play, SFV and BB Central Fiction. I’ve played on some prior screens where I would miss combos and have to adjust. However, I play identically on this projector as compared to my Samsung UE590 monitor which boasts a 1ms response time. Do note that I’m not a pro and my perception quite possibly cannot notice the 15ms difference. Image: Excellent. In Game Mode, the image is consistently dazzling at this price range. It’s no 4k, but I was impressed by how good it looked compared to my prior plasma circa 2008, and to my current Samsung monitor. Slightly different images, colors, tones, etc. But overall 5/5. I’m not actually sure of the bulb life in Game Mode though. The description says a random number between 5000-10,000 hours? Brightness: With a large amount of ambient light, you can still see the image pretty well, as expected of 3000 lumens. But as with every projector, remove the ambient light. As a side note, stay away from Economy mode. I attempted to use it with Netflix with no ambient light. It’s dim, washed out, and subtly flickers nonstop. Noise: In Game Mode, the image is at its best and the fan does kick in. But even in a silent room, the projector’s speaker on volume 1 still overpowers the fan noise, which is good. In other modes, like economy, the fan is barely audible. But don’t use economy mode. Sound: It’s there in case you need it. And it can get pretty loud with absolutely zero bass. I primarily use headphones so I can’t comment too much here. Problems: I did have to return my first projector for two reasons: 1) The focus was inconsistent across the screen. It would only focus one part of the screen at a time. If the left and center was in focus, then the right was blurry. If the right and center was clear, then the left would be blurry. 2) the top of the image was bowed. While the left, right, and bottom was perfectly aligned, the top middle of the image would display about 2 inches above the screen, and the left and right top edges would display about 1 inch below the screen, using an 84-inch screen. Fortunately, Amazon exchanged it for another identical unit. The focus was fixed, but the top bowing still exists to a near-negligible extent. My screen has black velvet (absorbs light) around the edges, so it’s not noticeable unless you’re looking for it. Heat: It does put out a decent amount, but not as much as my plasma TV. Gaming duration: I’ve played a max of 7 hours in a row with no issues. Just make sure to set the sleep timer to something longer. Once the sleep timer countdown comes on, I can’t figure out a way to tell the projector to cancel it without turning off the projector and turning it back on. Overall: Absolutely.

Wow! My first projector after a long time of research. Using in my basement on a light grey wall the picture is mind blowing, just over 5’ away and close to 150” screen size. Movies have been awesome, playing Xbox one even better, just wow. Lowest lag input I could find at 16s in Enhanced gaming mode. Blacks look black, colours look beautiful. Minor light leakage at the top (ceiling mount -unit upside down), as my unit is near a bulkhead where the image is beneath it I have minor light leakage on the vertical section of the bulkhead. Very minor not something that lessens the experience. Boarder around the picture - very dull but noticeable boarder around the picture which is a known downfall of DLP, but again nothing that ruins the experience and correctable with a black felt boarder. Fan Noise- Bright mode (standard) the fan ramps up a bit more and can be heard when nothing is being watched or played. I’m in Eco mode with brightness up a bit and it’s pretty quiet. My seating is about 10’ behind the projector, I hear a very minor hum while nothing is playing. Sound - you need an external sound setup, that’s a given. Ports - I’m using one HDMI port with a switcher for other devices. Has 2 HDMI ports and powered USB which I haven’t used. Picture Adjustments - keystone, horizontal and vertical and focus all very helpful on getting this setup. Blacks - again on a light grey Behr matte wall, the blacks are black and the colours are stunning. Over all I’m very satisfied with this projector and will defiantly recommend to a gamer and movie watcher you won’t regret this purchase. (Movie - Toy Story 4 1080p)

I have owned projectors now for over 20 yrs...I purchased this to replace the GT1080 short throw 2016 model...although this is still a 1080p projector..I am very impressed with the increased brightness and contrast ratio improvement...3D movies really pop with more colour vibrancy and clarity...great upgrade...FYI Installation will require precision placement to fit screen...I used lasers to mark center of screen and transfered lines on both floor and ceiling...place projector with mount on floor and aligned edges within screen..marked mount holes on floor and then using laser transfered to ceiling... keeping center of lens on center of line... patience is key when installing short throw projector

I installed the Optoma GT200HDR in my golf simulator and it works perfectly. It replaced an older 3000 lumen projector and the difference was remarkable. The GT2000 HDR is very bright and even with additional ambient lighting. It was extremely easy to set up and the projected image is as bright and clear as the television set that is connected to the gaming computer. The Optishot Nova launch monitor which is connected to the Orion video software allows this projector to display the most realistic images of the golf courses that I have ever experienced. An excellent projector for a golf simulator.
