The struts arrive compressed. Be prepared to use scissors to cut the band off. Instructions could probably be a tad better, I accidentally popped the whole spring off the original strut because I didn't know how easy it would fly off. Not easy to put back on but obviously at this point you'd have few reasons to save the broken strut anyway. I used a small screw driver for easiest removal of old struts. These went in easily, just have a helper or a good prop. A paint rolling pole works good. I used the latch pop out in the trunk to secure the pole and trunk hatch. Whole process took 10 minutes from open to install. Nice, solid opening now. Very stiff. Closing is harder but I'd rather have a strong opening. Noise is about the same and seems normal. The original OEM hydraulic struts lasted 17 years. It's unlikely these would last as long and the manufacturer probably knows that it doesn't matter if it even lasts half that long, they'll (hopefully) probably outlast the life of the vehicle. As of now 5 stars for easy assembly, seemingly good quality and a solution for a PITA problem. I'll update review if they fail prematurely but if they last even a few years, then it's a good value. I'd purchase these again and recommend them. Plus now I won't have to use my back to hold the trunk open 😁. That wasn't a fun week. Same thing happens with the hood pistons. Except it happens suddenly. The hood slammed down on me while open. Luckily the trunk was noticed when it happened and didn't fail while actually up.

These hood struts fit perfectly, with great strength to support the hood weight. They were very quick and easy to install, and a great value.

Very nice. Well made and has good product weight. Keeps the liftgate up and easily opens now. As quiet as the previous shocks. Easy to install. 5 minute job. Proper a ladder or have a strong friend keep the liftgate up. Push the old shock lock up on each end of one shock and pop it off. Pop the new one one. Do the same for the other side. Done.

Seems to work well. Durability is TBD.

While these struts work on my 1997 Toyota 4Runner, the original hardware did not work with these. I used the included pins with clips that all one part, but had hoped to use the original bolt and clips. Those did not go thru the holes in the struts. The holes were too small. Therefore I was also unable to use the washers and bushing that was used on the original struts. The struts are holding well but the holes are loose but I’m not sure that will make any difference in the long run. I have to lift a little further on the lift gate to get it to go up completely on it’s own but that is okay with me for now. Taking the old struts off and putting the new ones on went quickly once I realized that I would have to use the hardware included. My helper that was holding up the lift gate would have liked it if I had known that bit prior to volunteering for the job. It took a bit to figure that part out. It would have been impossible to do this without help…the lift gate is far too heavy to do on your own. Overall I am happy with the results but would have appreciated knowing that the holes on the struts would not work with the original hardware before starting the process. These were at a good price and I’m always happy to do the work myself and save the labor charge. It is a easy job for about anyone so don’t shy away if you’re not a mechanic!

Works really well. It took some creativity to tighten top bolt and bottomed bolt a little bit at a time. It seems that the fitting was a little tight into the machine holes on the body and gate lift. This could have been due to another bar on the left side that may have lost 1/4” of its strength to hold the gate lift very slightly higher. It would be best to replace two of these rear gate lifts once the issue of one gate lift happens right away. It would have been the reason that the other hold bar could have lost its strength to hold up the gate lift to 100 percent instead of 98 percent higher. I am not sure the lifts work great.

Excellent! Plus a great price. I put these on my 2000 4 runner. The old shocks were bad. Took about 20 min to install these and take out the old ones. A few things to note. When I took out the first lift gate shock the entire back door came down. Be careful. I thought the one shock would hold it, but it did not. Ouch!! These were super easy to install once I got the old shocks out. So far five stars! If they stop working ect I will add an update but they seem well made.

Fixed the bonnet/hood on my corvette

Only requires a small flat head screw driver to install, you might need to bang the end out from the socket but otherwise installation is smooth. You will also need a ladder or someone to hold up the hatch. Installation instructions can be found on youtube by searching. Important to note, no instructions in the box. But otherwise, really happy with this product.
